Size:9-3/4" H x 4-1/2" W, 5 Microns This Pentek ECP5-BB pleated cellulose polyester filter cartridge reduces sand, dirt, silt, rust, and scale particles in residential and commercial water. It has a nominal filtration rating of 5 microns at an efficiency of 85%. The filter is made of resin-impregnated cellulose and polyester media pleated around a polypropylene core for strength. It has an initial pressure drop of less than 1 pound per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 20 gallons per minute (gpm), and operates over a temperature range of 40 to 125 degrees F (4.4 to 51.7 degrees C). This pleated cellulose polyester filter cartridge is for use in various applications, including drinking water purification, irrigation, and industrial processes, among others.SpecificationsNominal filtration rating5 micronsInitial pressure drop at 20 gpm<1 psiTemperature range40 to 125 degrees F (4.4 to 51.7 degrees C)Maximum dimensions (H x W)9-3/4 x 4-1/2 inches (248 x 114 mm)The nominal filtration rating is for a particle removal efficiency of 85%.H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.Water filters remove undesirable particles, chemicals, and microorganisms from water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, or biological processes. They are made of densely packed synthetic or natural fibers that trap suspended particles, materials that block microbes or adsorb unwanted chemicals, or substances that cause a chemical change, such as acid neutralization. For most residential, commercial, and industrial applications, water filters are manufactured in the form of replaceable cartridges that fit inside permanent housings. Filtration systems typically consist of a series of two or more types of filters, each designed to remove different contaminants. The performance of filters is measured by the minimum particle size that is blocked, the percentage of particles or microorganisms that are removed, the downstream concentration of unwanted chemicals, the maximum flow rate, and the amount of water that can be filtered before the filter must be replaced. Water filters are used in a wide range of applications, including drinking water purification, swimming pools, industrial processes, and irrigation, among others.Pentair manufactures industrial, commercial, and residential water filtration components and systems. The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards 9001 and 14001 for quality assurance.

Pleated vs Wound String vs the new Spun Polypropylene
What's the benefit of pleated vs the wound string? The pleated offers MUCH more surface area and lasts much longer. I gave up on the wound string filters years ago because of the superior water flow and longevity of the pleated filters. I really like them. But now, the experts are recommending spun polypropylene filters. These new polypropylene filters don't have a rating the same way that pleated filters do because they have a range of filtrations --- the outer layer may be rated for 20 micron, while the inner may be rated for 5 micron. This means that the bigger particles are trapped on the surface and smaller and smaller particles are trapped as the water moves toward the interior of the filter. The experts say that this method is superior to the pleated cellulose filter design, but I'm not sure. I'm testing both kinds in my house now, and they seem to be performing equally well for longevity. I don't think you can go wrong with these pleated filters. Of particular note is that the pressure drop in these filters is so low that it's very well suited to low water pressure situations. We have a gravity feed spring supplying water at 20 pounds of pressure in the basement. After the filter, there is 19 pounds of pressure, still enough to take a shower.

Considerably better made then the C brand
I had been using the name brand for the blue housings for past 6yrs, in the last year everytime i open filter it had fallen apart , so i switched brands and so far these i have taken out and there still solid, have even washed it once and still holding strong.By far better built then the Other name brand.

Catches the small stuff
This is a very effective particle filter. It may be true of any filter like this; but, while the filter may look "clean", the water will pick up the sulfurous rotten egg smell. Rather than change the filter, I swish the filter in a very dilute bleach solution, then reinstall. Go easy on the bleach, as it can affect the function of a water softener.

these fit my big blue housing
i have a big blue filter where the water enters the house, for particle filtering, and these pentek filters fit that housing. the 5 micron filter has no noticeable difference in flow rate. i think the 1 micron filter has a very small drop in pressure, so small that i was not sure it was really there, or whether it was just a placebo effect . . . because i expected it to be there. i think it's a small drop in flow rate. when it comes time to run my irrigation system, i'll check to see if i can notice any difference in the various emitters & drippers.

The most bang for your buck!
We have a new home and this is our 4th type of filter. My husband said that these are definitely the keeper!! We get 2 uses out of them. He replaces the one in the unit with a new filter and then rinses the old filter well and lets it dry and in 3 weeks we switch them out again. Great filters.

Too soon to tell
Not sure. I normally change filter between 6 and 8 weeks. Recently I am changing them in 4 to 6 weeks.Could be the water flow contains more sediment or it could be the filters.I need a few more months to make a better judgment.
