LOVE KNOWING THE UMBRELLA IS STABLE IN THE WINDS HERE
The media could not be loaded. There is nothing better than a beautiful sunny day unless of coarse if it is too hot or if the sun is shining right on your face, then you need an umbrella to block it. I had already gotten an umbrella that I absolutely love, it practically covers the whole deck. The only problem I was having was with these Nebraska winds. They are horrible and I was not wanting to screw the base into the deck wood because then if you want to move it you can't... it is too permanent. I never even knew they made these portable bases, but boy is it a life saver. Since it is still really windy here we practiced with filling the 4 plastic bases in the garage and then once it stops being so windy in a few weeks, we will wheel barrow them out to the back deck. My husband is one of those men always thinking about how you would reuse something if you had too. So he decided he would never need sand for anything so he bought bags of small stone river rocks...they are quite heavy and he figured we could use them in the garden since they are decorative if we ever had too. These umbrella bases come with everything you need including instructions and a little plastic funnel to use to fill the bases with. Very easy and super simple. These are the..Abba Patio Plastic Umbrella Base Plate Set for Cantilever Offset Umbrella in Blackby Abba Patio®PACKAGING...---all 4 bases come in a box with the instructions and a plastic funnel.PROS...---4 triangular base plates with caps---heavy duty plastic---very heavy durable---can be filled with wet or dry sand...or as we did with river rock pebbles---these base plates add a total weight to the base of your umbrella of between 150 to 180 pounds---they are UV protected so they won' fade---each triangle is roughly 27.5 by 14 inchesCONS...---absolutely none yet...but I will update if I find one.I received this product to test for free and I was only asked to give my honest opinion. Good Alternative to concrete disc
Don't want to spend $150 on a concrete disc, or several hundred dollars on a cast iron base? This might a good alternative option. The 4 pieces of the base and a simple funnel was shipped in this package, sand is of course not included. I filled it used approximately 1.5 cubic feet of play sand and water making a nice weight for the umbrella. The experience filling this with sand was mostly good. The instruction said to fill it with Quick Sand, but unable to find it at local home improvement store, I made do with regular play sand. Took approximately 1 hour to fill all four pieces with the funnels provided. If your plan is to fill each piece with water only without the sand, this is NOT the product for you. The cap is not a screw on it will be able to create a water tight seal, the 3 KG ( 3 Liter, or approximately 12 cups ) of water the manufacture recommend is probably low enough to not touch the cap when its lay flat. The Good:- Already provided the plastic funnel- 4 separate piece means less stress on your back and legs after it filled with sand and water- Simple decoration on the top side, makes it not look complete boring versus a concrete discThe Bad:- The funnel in my case is slightly larger than the opening, forcing me to use one hand to keep the funnel somewhat aligned. Had the funnel being the right size/shape, where it can sit on the open, the filling experience would have been far better.Additionally, the play sand I bought was a bit damp and wet; causing it to stick too much, which worsen the filling experience. If the sand is completely dry, probably would be way easier to fill too.

Gravity is your friend
So these are actually very easy to fill, but it requires a little thinking. You just need duct tape, scissors, and a car.1) Get your scissors and use the edge to pry off the caps on the containers.2) Use duct tape to attach the funnel to the opening. The funnel doesn't really have a spout, but it works just fine if you tape it to the opening. You don't have to make it super tight, just enough to keep it upright and centered.3) As others mentioned, make sure you get dry sand. I got three 50-lb bags of play sand from Home Depot, which was more than enough, and maybe $10 total. To keep it dry, don't take the bags out of your car until you're ready to fill these, and even then...4) Use gravity to your advantage! I have a hatchback SUV, so I simply positioned the sand bag so it was hanging over the bumper, lined up the opening/funnel under the edge, and cut a hole in the bag so it would pour into the container. If you don't have a hatchback, you could do the same thing by just putting the bag in the backseat of your car, with it hanging out the side.4a) The other reason to just fill from your car is that carrying four 38ish-pound weights is easier than three 50-lb sand bags. I work out, but I'm a single woman; I'm only so burly.4b) Every now and then, just shake the container back and forth to get a bit of a more even fill.If you do all these things, you won't need to do anything else fancy or laborious. Total, it took me maybe 15-20 min to do them all. And they work great!

They work well and look great
They look great. I only wish that the tips were bit thinner so they fit better under the rest of the umbrella

Easy to fill!
Very easy to fill with sand and they are made of very sturdy, thick plastic! Very heavy once filled and secure my offset umbrella even when windy out.

best choice for recommended umbrella
seems like a lot of money for 4 plastic triangles, but they fit the base well, look reasonable, and seem like they are tough enough to weather. Takes a while to fill with sand, its almost a bag of sand per unit, and probably weighs about 90lbs when all four all filled.
