Book that offers good learning material.
Read full summary of this book on my blog: imeducatingmyself.com/duct-tape-marketing-revised-and-updated-the-worlds-most-practical-small-business-marketing-guide-by-john-jantsch-book-reviewI was looking for a marketing book that could help me get some ideas on how to create better marketing strategy for my blog; to get more traffic that will convert. I did get some ideas by reading this book and it was helpful for me. Some of the ideas that I get I’ve already implemented, and on other I will work in future.I would suggest this book to those who already know thing or two when it comes to marketing, and it’s good for beginners also. I wound’t be recommending it to someone who already knows a lot about marketing – because most likely that person is already familiar with things written inside this book. You can check through my summary and see is there something that you don’t know.In my opinion this book is best for those who have online based business, because majority of things can be applied to online based business; and some of the things can be applied to offline business. You can use local marketing strategies presented in this book for your offline based local business. But I have to say that you will have to do more research and read some other books as well.I think this book will be very helpful to those who are selling e-books, courses, tutoring and those kind of products.I’m disappointed with this book only because of the one thing, when I was reading biography I see that author is in marketing business; and I have to say that I was expecting a lot more examples and case studies from authors previous work with other business. That is one thing that this book kind a lack off. And that is reason why I didn’t give five stars rating to this book. And in the end, this book is not your all-in-one guide package; you will definitely need to read more if you want to learn about marketing – because marketing is complex subject, and it’s not something that you can learn easily. I can say that from my own personal experience. But you’ll get good basics, and you can develop them if you actually use and test what you have learned.

Good information
This book mostly gives information on marketing for brick and mortar shops or service industries. He does touch on internet marketing in the second to last chapter, and I bought the book for more of the online marketing help. All of his information is very good and well written and organized so you can follow it step by step. It just wasn't for me, and I wish he would have said something in his description of the book.

John does a great job of showing how to put systems and procedures ...
I purchased this after seeing John speak at the Social Media Marketing World Conference. John does a great job of showing how to put systems and procedures in place for marketing yours or a clients business. I strongly recommend this to small business owners who want to control their own marketing, or agencies looking to step up their game for clients. I removed one star because he always seems to be pushing his products a little too much. I understand the need for that, but I don't have to like it lol.

Loved This Book!
If you’re looking for easy to implement, cost effective marketing advice; look no further! I came away with three full pages of notes and strategies that I applied immediately. I’m a big reader of business books and this has been one of the best I’ve read. If you’re in marketing or small business, you’d be crazy not to purchase this book.

Makes you think
I have read about a third of this book so far, and it has really made me think about who my customers are and how they perceive my business. I wanted to give it five stars, but the reading style is a bit dry like a textbook, thus four stars. Still, excellent content if you own or are starting a business.

John Jantsch is Markieting Genius
Duct Tape Marketing is one of my go-to resources for small business owners. John Jantsch wrote a book filled with practical tips to retool an owner's marketing machine. Now I know why businesses hire marketing people...It's not as easy as it looks. But DTM makes the transition to chief marketing officer much easier for the non-marketing manager.I will be using many of his tactics to turn my company into the marketing company that all businesses need to be. Get this book. You'll find all the tips and techniques for small business marketing success.

An update of a great book about small business marketing
I gave the original Duct Tape Marketing book five stars when I bought and reviewed it in 2008 and bought this updated one when it was released. It has taken me some time to review it and I can again confirm that this does to be in the top handful of small business marketing books I've read. The overall book is excellent and it is packed with a vast number of excellent tips on how to promote a business. However, if you've bought the original book I don't think you need to rush out and get this one although if you're new to Duct Tape Marketing, this is the one to get.I still don't think John Jantsch is putting enough emphasis on the Marketing Hourglass concept. This is a concept of the traditional marketing funnel of prospects, qualified leads, customers etc combined with a lifetime view of the development of the customer's experiences as they continue to buy, expand deeper into your range and then refer you to other businesses.I'd also like to see some attention given to marketing mindset and the measurement of marketing activities and results. |In my coaching I talk about the 5 Ms of Marketing - market, message, media, mindset and measurement. This book excels in its attention to the media side, that is the way the marketing message is carried. It is also good on the development of the core marketing message.Whilst it talks about understanding your market, it could go further in terms of identifying the different segments in the market and their different needs and implications along with understanding competitors and the trend of the market. It is much more focused on tactical marketing than strategic marketing. It may sound like I'm criticising the book but I think what's included in it is excellent. I've been putting a list of ten or twelve of the best business books for business owners and Duct Tape Marketing is included on that list but it needs to be complemented by the following: Blue Ocean Strategy, Expanded Edition: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make the Competition Irrelevant (Leatherbound Deluxe Collector's Edition) Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got: 21 Ways You Can Out-Think, Out-Perform, and Out-Earn the Competition The Brain Audit: Why Customers Buy (and Why They Don't) The Ultimate Sales Machine: Turbocharge Your Business with Relentless Focus on 12 Key Strategies (combines marketing with sales and business development)About my book reviews - I aim to be a tough reviewer because the main cost of a book is not the money to buy it but the time needed to read it and absorb the key messages. 5 stars means that I think that overall it has some vital messages in it.Paul Simister, business coach Blue Ocean Strategy, Expanded Edition: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make the Competition Irrelevant (Leatherbound Deluxe Collector's Edition)Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got: 21 Ways You Can Out-Think, Out-Perform, and Out-Earn the CompetitionThe Brain Audit: Why Customers Buy (and Why They Don't)The Ultimate Sales Machine: Turbocharge Your Business with Relentless Focus on 12 Key Strategies
