Essay Exam Writing for the California Bar Exam

::UPDATE:: I passed the July 2018 CA bar on my first try. I can’t praise this book enough.I spent an ungodly amount of money on "the" commercial bar prep program... you all know what I'm talking about. I am 1 week out from the bar exam and I ordered this because of the reviews and I need some help with my memorization/essay attacks. This is literally saving my life. 1. it presents ALL material in an easy to read/digestible format; 2. it presents realistic and helpful attack sheets; 3. the essays, samples, and breakdowns are incredibly helpful.IF i pass the bar.. it is 100% due to this book. The hardest part about the bar [for me at least] is figuring out whats important and how to memorize. Bar prep programs give you too much information--I swear its some sleazy effort to assert intellectual dominance and keep people afraid NOT to sign up for a bar prep program.I am thoroughly pissed I didn't buy this book like 6 weeks earlier. I would be in the best position if I had. If you are studying for the bar, BUY THIS. Seriously.

I passed the California Bar Exam on my first try using primarily this book and a set of MBE practice questions. My wife is currently studying for the California lawyers' exam using this book. I have recommended it to just about everyone I know who is taking the California Bar Exam.When I was studying for the bar exam, I purchased an expensive test-prep course which I ended up using very little. I was working during my test prep and did not have as much time to study as I would have liked. This book presents the substantive material in a concise format that I found much more efficient than the other (longer, more expensive) courses. The truth is, you don't need to know EVERYTHING about the tested subjects in order to pass the bar exam. You DO need to be able to spot all of the major testable issues quickly. That's what this book teaches you to do. I also found the "attack" outlines invaluable when I got closer to the exam. If you did pretty well in law school, I would consider skipping the overpriced bar prep courses that prey on your fear and anxiety and the to convince you the only way to pass the bar exam is to shell out thousands of dollars for their bloated products. At least, it worked for me.I rarely leave reviews and am in no way affiliated with the publisher of this book. I just think it's that good, and kind of despise the bar-prep-course industry, which many of us simply don't need.

I wasted my time was Themis. Nothing was sticking in my head. I found this book 1 month before the exam, and it totally saved me. Well, I haven't gotten my results yet, but I wish I had this book before I got Themis. Here's my plan if I need to take it again: This book, adapibar, and bar essays dot com. Seriously, that's all you need. Don't waste time with Bar Preps. It was all busy work.

The headline tells you all you really need to know, but for background, I took the bar exam in another state in 2012 and remembered nothing outside my area of practice. I didn't want to pay for a commercial preparation class and really couldn't find one that catered to those taking the Attorney's Exam (essays and Performance Test only) anyway. I read the reviews of this book and saw that others had passed the Attorney's Exam using just it, so I decided to give that a try. I just found out I passed! For the sake of providing complete information, I worked 40 hours a week while studying (but I did start in March rather than May). Additionally, I did NOT graduate from a highly-ranked law school. I cannot thank the authors of this book enough. I think they have really hit on the formula for constructing a passing essay. The outlines contain the essential information for a good grasp of the tested subjects, and the example essays and analysis charts are extremely helpful. I should also note that I purchased the study guide for the California Performance Test (also from Wolters-Kluwer), but only reviewed it in the final two days leading up to the exam. If you are a practicing attorney, the Performance Test is probably not something you need to study a lot for. THANK YOU, MARY BASICK AND TINA SCHINDLER - I'm convinced that angels do roam the earth!

This book was very helpful to my husband, who at 49 and with 2 kids and a full time job passed the CA bar. He attributes a lot of his success to this book, and he highly recommends it.

The best Bar exam and law school legal writing book out there. If you want to master IRAC, then this is your go to book. Moreover, this book will give you a wealth of rules in each subject. I highly recommend the book.

This book is highly recommended on numerous bar forums. I'm looking into taking the one-day attorney's exam, which is all essays, and this book provides all the info you need to structure your essays and rack up points with the graders.
