trailer Review: Cool little accessory for the RocHobby Jeep! Please make accessories for the Kubelwagen! :) Thank-you Review: A very nice, highly detailed trailer for the RocHobby 1:12 Scaler 1941MB (Jeep). Has the same great detailing as the jeep! Comes well-packaged in a 2-part plastic molded blister-type pack inside a small cardboard box. Contents trailer body, trailer tongue assembly, trailer safety chains, and modified jeep towing pintle. The included instructions show exploded diagrams of all the individual parts (i.e. wheel sets, axle, frame & cargo bucket). However, trailer came completely assembled aside from the trailer hitch, safety chains, and towing pintle. The included manual contains very little useful assembly instructions although it doesn't really require any. The only thing that would have been useful would be the type and dimension of the drivers required (none are included) for tightening of the fasteners for the trailer's tongue and towing pintle. I had to dig out my collection of really small hex wrenches to find the correct size which is a 1.5mm hex head driver. If your not a RC hobbyist, you might not have one this size on-hand around the house. These were very straight forward to install once you've got the proper sized Allen key in hand. The other tool required is, again, a very small tool that most folks may not have on hand. It's a T6 Torx (star) bit. Again, I happened to have one on hand for my other RC gear. The one I had was from a small multi-bit set I had purchased from Harbor Freight several years ago. (Pittsburgh Multi-Bit Precision Screwdriver Set, 34 Piece). You need this because you need to replace the towing pintle because the one that comes included in the jeep doesn't secure the trailer tongue very well. The one that comes with the trailer fits the tongue much tighter so it can't come off the pintle when going over a bump: metal trailer hitch just snaps in place with the included hitch). I used the long bit extension driver from the Harbor Freight set to get to the screw head underneath the rear axle. I also removed the bit from the extension to use as a short-handled screwdriver because access was so limited. I guess you could remove the rear axle to gain better access but I didn't want to do that. You have to go take your time and be patient because you'll need to reuse this screw on the new pintle and don't want to strip out the screw head. Hardest part about this for me was determining what the proper bit was to fit this screw since access and visibility of the tiny screw head was limited. Before you install the new pintle, you need to take the top half of the pintle off the off the old pintle bottom and reinstall it on the new one. I opened the jaws of the pintle and inserted a very small jeweler's flat head screw driver at the hinge point and pried the top off. You could probably just gently twisted off as well. Just snap the pintle top on the new bottom half of the pintle then you can screw the new assembled pintle back in place on the jeep. Only thing left to do is install the safety chains. I used a pair of needle nosed pliers to open the end link on the chain and inserted in the hole on the trailer tongue. I then used two pair of needle nosed pliers to re-close the opend link around the hole. It wasn't too hard; just took a little time and the right tools to get it done. Very happy with it although I wish it was a little cheaper than $75.00! At that price, I think RocHobby should have included the small hand tools required for the final assembly of the trailer as well as a new screw to attach the jeep's towing pintle as the small, soft screw head is liable to be damaged and deformed a little bit taking it out. Overall, very satisfied with this purchase! The attention to detail is impressive. Very nicely made product!
