Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right, Board Game, Ages 10plus, 2 - 4 Players, 60 - 90 Minute Playing Time

We bought this game because of the design, I wasn't expecting it to be so complex (in a good way). The rules took us about 1 hour to read, but once we understood all of the mechanics we can now open the box, set up and play without having to go back and read everything through again. There is a small follow-along rulebook to get you started, but we just went straight for the main rules instead. The design is stunning. Everything feels premium from the board to the individual pieces. A very fun game that takes us ~1 hour to complete each turn.

Opening and exploring the box was a joy, everything is really high quality and nice to look at. There's quite a bit in the box, you'll need quite a large table to comfortably fit all the components, as each player has their own board, cards and tokens in front of them as well as the main map. The games clearly been through a lovingly thorough design process, and only once you play it do you see all of the games depth unfold. At first the rulebook looks daunting but it's actually quite concise, and turns become very fast, making the game actually quite quick. There is quite a bit to it though, so probably best for people who've board gamed before, and definitely a more competitive crowd.

Steep learning curve, but really enjoyable once you're passed it. The game is beautifully designed, and factions have interesting and varying mechanics, which brings freshness to each playtime. Be mindful that some rules can be complex and nuanced, and I had to use internet to get definitive answers. Box arrived fast and in perfect condition, really happy with my purchase.

A really good game! Lots of complexity makes it a real step up from a lot of other 'classics strategy games, but omg is it complicated to get to grips with! Not the kind of game you can just get your mates round to play...they have to do some serious 'pre-work' before they do!

This game is brilliant, and works well as two player. I love how when playing as different factions you have to adopt completely different strategies and you have different objectives to win the game. The more you play, you learn that it's just as important to pay attention to what your opponent is doing as to what you're doing. I also love the quality of this game, all the pieces are well made and visually appealing. This is quickly becoming a favourite of ours.

It came in perfect condition and me and my boyfriend really enjoy playing this with friends/guests So fun and 100% worth getting

The base game is for 4 players. 6 with the expansion pack. Each player has a different character, each character is played differently, each with its own rules and game ambitions. It’s very addictive.

Hard to learn but once you have it’s a great game with endless playability and the most charm I’ve seen in a board game.

Great quality game. Components are cute, but the gameplay is cutthroat. Got to love Root.

Explaining and understanding the rules is a lot of work but the gameplay is very rewarding. Each player gets to choose a faction and plays differently. You always have to come up with creative ideas to deal with the situation at hand (depending on how good your opponents play) and no two games are the same. Best suited for 3-4 players! You can either choose to continuously play as the same faction to hone your skills and tactics, or you can switch it up each game to better understand all factions and make each replay a bit more interesting for yourself.
