Its roasted maple neck with 22 stainless steel frets, along with upgraded neodymium magnet humbuckers with an 18-volt preamp, and expanded body contour with sculpted 5-bolt heel joint allow this bass to bring out the best of any player.Roasted Maple Neck with 22 Stainless Steel FretsAll maple used for the neck is processed using a tightly controlled heating and cooling cycle. Moisture is removed from the wood and the material becomes lighter, stiffer, and more stable. Its color becomes a deeper golden brown, and the grain has more dramatic figure. The wood cells are opened and the resins within the wood dried, producing a better sounding material. This roasting process makes the wood more resonant and responsive. The feel of oiled and waxed wood is improved, as it becomes less affected by moisture. Each stainless steel fret is harder and corrosion resistant. This material resists wear far beyond traditional Nickel Silver and has a smoother feel.Neodymium Magnet Humbuckers with an 18-Volt PreampNeodymium magnets are stronger than Alnico or ceramic magnets of comparable size and weight. The increased strength of the magnetic field applies to guitar pickups in making them more sensitive and higher output. The higher output requires less gain, which means lower noise. An 18-volt 3-Band preamp provides extra clean headroom without clipping and less distortion. The preamp is re-voiced to still be able achieve modern and vintage StingRay tones.Expanded Body Contour with Sculpted 5-Bolt Heel JointThe contouring of the StingRay Special is all about comfort and playability. The arm contour is less like a one directional ramp, and more spherical to allow for a comfortable place to rest your forearm at any angle.
