I failed to realize until using this solder, that it (the old stuff) either had a high melting point or perhaps because it was so old it took much higher heat to melt than this solder. This solder is easy to melt (around 400F), flows smoothly and holds in place - and most importantly, I suppose, conducts as it should. The small diameter of the wire makes it quite easy to work with in small places.
