High-Resolution Audio compatible. Review: Spectacular picture and sound quality! - This Sony delivers spectacular picture and sound quality! We were astounded at the great improvement that made it look like we purchased a new latest generation Sony HDTV set. Our very old Pioneer Elite AV Receiver that had given us excellent service for many years started acting weird and one day froze up in HDMI Passthrough mode, no matter what we did we could not get it back to normal and pressing on the button combination to force it to factory reset it did nothing, its logic was frozen. We were sad to have to replace it since Pioneer no longer makes AV Receivers and no longer services them, and since this was an unexpected expense we opted for this low cost Sony (it is one third of what we paid for the Pioneer Elite back then) and just hoped for basic functionality. We were shocked to find that it sounds so much better (even though the Pioneer Elite had the state of the art audio processing and DACchips back then) and the picture quality was greatly improved, we had to try watching different movies to see if it was consistent and everything looks so much better, more saturated, greater range of colors/shades and overall everything is greatly improved. We really are enjoying this unit and highly recommend it. But if you have the Money get the puffin it’s amazing **Q: So this connects multiple speakers with Bluetooth?** A: well yes, assuming you have multiple speakers wired to this system, then they will play audio from your phone over the bluetooth connection. but i think bt only supports stereo signals, not true 5.1 or 7.1. i.e. the center and rear speakers will play a simulated signal. **Q: are the hdmi inputs actual inputs or just pass thru?** A: Hi Allen W., The HDMI ports are actual HDMI inputs. You may refer to this link for more product information: https://docs.sony.com/release//SPECS/STRDH590_mksp.pdf ~Ralph **Q: What size subwoofer would I be able to use with this** A: I have a 12 inch powered subwoofer 400 W works perfectly fine ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spectacular picture and sound quality! *by B***. on June 23, 2026* This Sony delivers spectacular picture and sound quality! The seller answered all my concerns about purchasing this like-new unit. It has been exactly as the seller stated. It sounds wonderful! It saved us money! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It was a great receiver that started having major issues at 16 months only. *by D***E on July 7, 2026* It "was" 4 stars , until ...it wasn't. I'm gonna save you some heartache and drama. This receiver worked flawlessly and I was actually really impressed with the fact that once it was properly calibrated, which was an extremely easy thing to do, it sounded amazing. The remote control was easy to use and understand. I don't have the greatest speakers so the fact that it was pumping some great movie sound thru my sony blu ray player was awesome. Bought this receiver as replacement for an Onkyo that lasted and lasted. Now let me be clear, when it comes to taking care of all my electronics, tv, speakers, I guess you could say I got a little OCD always making sure there's no dust or dirt, making sure the unit has plenty of ventilation, that there's nothing obstructing the flow of things. I bought the unit in march, and rather than sitting inside a cabinet, or under the tv. After 15 months of use, despite still looking like brand new it has developed a problem a unit of this age should not have. Last night for no reason whatsoever the unit shut itself down and displayed "protect" on the display before going completely off. When I tried turning it back on it stayed on for about 10 mins and shut itself down again with the same error. I've disconnected everything , checked all the speaker wire, checked the ends, the connections, the cords, even changed the surge protector and changed electrical outlets and instead of going off after 10 mins, it's staying on and then shutting itself off again with that same error. IMO a receiver well taken care of should not be doing this strange behavior after such a short time in good conditions, and with no issues like the area getting overly hot or something like that. As of the writing of this review it just shut itself off yet again after flashing "protect" from the display several times. is it possible there may be some faulty models ? I dunno. ## Frequently Bought Together - Sony STRDH590 5.2 Channel Surround Sound Home Theater Receiver: 4K HDR AV Receiver with Bluetooth,Black - Amazon Basics Speaker Cable, Easy Assembly, 16-Gauge, Bronze, 100 ft - FosPower Banana Plugs 2 Pairs / 4 pcs, Closed Screw 24K Gold Plated Banana Speaker Plug Connectors for Speaker Wire, Wall Plate, Home Theater, Audio/Video Receiver, Amplifiers and Sound Systems --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/77754451-strdh590-5-2-channel-surround-sound-home-theater-receiver-4k](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/77754451-strdh590-5-2-channel-surround-sound-home-theater-receiver-4k) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-09*
