2011 Reprint of 1954 Edition. Richard Walker, the author of this work, is the second most popular Twelve Step recovery author in total sales, after Bill Wilson. Walker has helped untold numbers of alcoholics through his writings. "Twenty-Four Hours a Day" is a book of meditation, thought, and prayer that is soul inspiring, spiritually uplifting, and filled with sage words of wisdom. While geared toward members of Alcoholics Anonymous to help them in their daily program of recovery, the book has much to offer any individual who is working on self-improvement and personal growth, and who is searching for spiritual uplifting and guidance. The book is divided into the 365 days of the calendar year, offering a thought, meditation, and related short prayer on each day. Much of the material is based on the Big Book and other A.A. literature. A classic work. Review: 24 Hours Per Day Book - This is great spiritual book you can ready every day. The price was right, it arrived on time, and I would recommend this seller. Review: Jul - Wonderful book which encompasses thought, meditation and prayer. Love it

This book in general is something we should all take 5 minutes to ponder every morning. Its about life, not recovery.

Author is Richmond Walker (not Richard Walker)
Richmond Walker was an early AA member from Boston Massachusetts. Richmond compiled the book by rewriting an earlier work God Calling by โTwo Listenersโ author unknown, edited by AJ Russell. Richmond removed most of the Christian references and added his own experience, strength and hope. He organized each day into Thought for Today, Meditation for Today, and Prayer for Today. The 24 Hour book was published and distributed by author, with the help of his winter AA Home Group in Daytona, Florida and 10โs of thousands were sold by mail order. Around 1955 Richmond offered to give the book to Bill W. and AA but it was not accepted because the 12 x 12 book was being published and money was tight, and also because it was seen as too specifically Christian and therefore, exclusive. Richmond then offered to give it to Hazlden who accepted it and continued itsโ publication to the present day.

Great...but not perfect!
I have enjoyed this daily meditation for years! It is not, however, my favorite meditation book. Reliable but not outstanding!

It's a very good publication with daily reminders to living a day at a time.......spiritually and through AA. Make no mistake, this book is used by people in AA and for people who believe in God/a Higher power. I think if you're a spiritual person suffering from an addiction and if you can get past the occasional references to being in AA and you substitute your addiction for alcohol it's a great daily reminder to take things one day at a time. And in reality that's all anyone really has whether you're suffering from an addiction or not.

Much better/ less religious than AA's Daily Reflections.

Useful and inspiring to anyone
It can really be a very inspiring book to anyone. I've never had problems with alcohol, but Duran Duran's bass guitarist shared a passage in a blog and I loved it. Bought the Kindle version and it turned out to be exactly what I needed to change many views and attitudes for better. Perfect for those who lost their faith in something higher or can't fit into a specific religion but want (or need) to connect to a higher power. And I also got to understand alcoholism better and have more respect for people who have this problem. One of the most useful books I've ever read.
