Altura Unisex Adult Dryline 2 Pannier - Grey/Black, 56 Litre

I wasn't able to measure the panniers before I returned them but I believe their volume to be below the 28 litres each they claim. They were actually smaller than the panniers I wanted to replace and those reported themselves as being 20 litres each. Using the dimensions they give on the Altura website I calculate the volume to be about 20 litres.They are most definitely waterproof, if you seal the bag without pressing the air out first you'll have a balloon! The quality is reasonable but the thin material didn't give me confidence in their longevity when compared to the tough tarp style material of my older panniers. The advantage is they are a fair bit lighter.I didn't like the bag-in-a-bag style they used to have a waterproof inner, I think it's better to just have a waterproof outer with a roller top; I suspect you'd get water pooling between the layers if you didn't put the lid on correctly. I wanted to use that front pocket for documents but I doubt they'd stay dry. I also didn't like the semi-rigid bar for the roller bag. I prefer a hard bit of plastic, I suspect this would be far too flexible within a year or two of regular use.The outer lid is a stretchy fabric that allowed me to jam a pair of size 12 shoes between the full bag and the lid; this is a really handy feature of panniers with lids but with the bag-in-a-bag design you'll have to be careful to make sure the lid isn't exposing the gap between the inner bag and the outer layer if it's raining. The clips are weird and I suspect are trading ruggedness for style, but the pannier hook design is very good and the positioning of the shoulder strap hoops would allow you to connect the bags back to back when carrying them as a messenger bag which is convenient.Good panniers at a reasonable price with some nice features and some faults that are largely mitigated by a careful user, would be 4* with accurately reported volume.

while the photo on amazon shows one pannier the price and the size given 56 litres must be for 2 panniers . however you will only receive one 28 litre pannier . do not buy . i suggest go to a reputable cycle shop and save yourself the hassle of returning the item
