The stand assist was purchased for my mother who at times has difficulty getting out of a chair due to arthritis. I was concerned that the stand would be flimsy, but it's quite substantial and well made. The stand is easy to put together (a few screws and an allen wrench are included), and the best part is that you can adjust it to fit your situation. The upholstered chair that we have is narrow, and I was able to adjust it for a snug fit under the cushion. The legs are easily adjustable in height. The handles are nicely padded and firm so you really don't feel the metal underneath when you push up. My mother has just started to use it, and we already know that it will be a great help to her. We ended up having one of the handles positioned all the way up, and the other all the way down. This best suit her condition. Without this flexibility, I doubt that it would have worked for her. She also likes that the stand does not move around as she is rising which makes her feel more stable when standing. We've tried a number of products, and this stand assist is the best made and offers the best options for customizing to the users need. I would recommend it.

I am having hip surgery and needed something a little higher, that I could push up with, to help me easily get to my feet. Chair arms were to low and my walker was to high. This device offers adjustability to width and height and turned out perfect for my needs. It is pretty sturdy, and the grab handles sit just in front of my recliner so they are not in my way at all. Also there is nothing on the floor in front of you causing a trip hazard. It enables me to easily push myself up while keeping my hips straight as I get to my feet. It also helps me sit slowly and pain free. was also pleased that i can still recline with no problems as the foot rest of the chair fits right between the frame. It is just a bit challenging to put together, only in that it is put together with screws and once together you no doubt will have to adjust the width and height, but once together it's great!

Easy to put together and very sturdy. It’s really helpful in our La-Z-Boy recliner as a family member has had surgery and it was difficult for him to get in and out of this chair before it was in there. Now it’s installed, It’s so much easier! It’s a godsend to have it! It really supports him and it supports me whenever I want to sit down in that Lazy Boy chair. I know I can get out of it without struggling anymore.. Also, you don’t feel the bars that are sitting around inside the seat of the La-Z-Boy. It’s comfortable sitting in there and supportive because the handles sit up above the arm rests and they are also adjustable, which is really nice to have. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who struggles getting in and out of their Lazy Boy chair. It’s a game changer for us!

Part of the stand includes a metal bar that runs from the right side to the left side, passing behind the coccyx when you're sitting down, and I'd like to address that concern. For our couch, the seat-back pillow on the couch is about six inches deep and removable. When placing the stand onto the couch, the bar lays on the seat and slips under the bottom of the seat-back pillow. Make sure the bar is as far away as possible from the coccyx, deeply recessed behind the seatback pillow, and the seatback pillow is completely in front of the bar. Make sure the bar is hitting the back of the couch, then put the seatback pillow in front of it. When my mom drops into the couch, her coccyx only hits the full depth of the pillow, not the bar. Further, she also uses a small pillow for lumbar support in front of the seatback pillow, so that puts even more distance between her and the bar. She's about 190 lbs, and her coccyx has never hit the bar. There is a locking adjustment so when the bar is flush up against the back of the couch as far as it can go, the handles extend just beyond the front of the couch cushion. That puts the handles in the best position for standing up. You have to slide forward so your shoulders are above the handles, then you have the best leverage for pushing down while you're standing up. The stand works fine for her. Handles on the right and left to push on when she stands up. The handles are easier than a shaky cane on one side that's too high when you're sitting, and the couch-arm on the other side that isn't really intended to help you stand up. The handles on the stand are a strategic inch lower than the couch-arms, and are better situated to help while standing up. I'll see if I can add a photo to the review. When sitting, she has the couch's armrest on one side. For the other side, she has a tube-shaped pillow that I put over the exposed bar that she can use as an armrest for that side. No degradation of The Stand noticed after a year. I checked the bolts for tightness a few months ago and they were all still as tight as when I assembled the stand. I kept the large allen wrench in a drawer. The bolts have socket-heads which accept the allen wrench, and they are easy to manipulate. At once point, you will have the floor filled with large sections of railing before it's all put together. It's been a while, but I remember the assembly directions were sufficient.

I purchased two of these for a family member. She needed something she could boost herself up that wouldn't take as much strain on her shoulder as using the cushions of the easy chair or sofa. This unit has proved itself to be a well needed investment. Once I assembled it correctly (screwing in the screws tighter) it has been very sturdy and durable. It was easy enough to assemble, but not as easy as I thought it would be. There are 6 (or was it 8) screws that need to be tightened into the appropriate places in order to make this a "one size fits most" unit. My measuring was off (so measure carefully after it arrives and when you know where you want it to sit) so I had to disassemble and then redo it. These aren't the type of "push button" type triggers like you see on metal crutches or walking canes. I know why they aren't now (because they could squish against a cushion and compress, thus causing the unit to collapse) The screws allow for a stronger assembly. She's thrilled with how they work. Even in her rocker recliner. I just made the front legs shorter so that when she rocked forward to get up, then the legs would touch the ground. Overall very, very pleased!

Our 87 year old family member struggled to get off the recliner sofa, both in pushing the footrest down with his feet and also in standing up. It was so difficult for him that we were strongly considering getting rid of the recliner sofa and buying one of the recliners that push you up out of the seat. But, after reading the reviews for this, I thought it was worth a try. It has worked just as described; was easy to assemble and adjust and works (just as it said it would) on our La-Z-Boy recliner sofa which does not have removable cushions. This has made a huge difference for our senior!! He is able now to grasp the handles, push his footrest down with his feet and then get easily to his feet. It was so hard for him to get up before we installed this that he would often sit long stretches without getting up because he didn't like to call anyone to ask for help. Now, he gets up and down easily and more often which means he'll now get up to get himself a glass of water, to go out on the deck and walk around, to get a sweater or hang one up, etc. This has made a tremendous difference in his activity level and his independence. I was teasing him yesterday, saying it was too bad he didn't like it and that we could send it back; he laughed and told me I'd have to fight him to get it away from him! Wish we'd gotten it several years ago. Great product.

had a friend that bought one for her husband, he loved it so much I ordered one for my 87 yr old dementia Mom. First she liked it. then she forgot what it was for and how to use it. then she liked it, then she found it was in her way when she tried to get up out of the chair. then she complained about it hurting her butt....the metal frame was under the cushion and I couldn't feel it when I sat down. We returned it because she started explaining she didn't need any help to get in and out of the chair....but in reality she did and does. I thought it would help, but it didn't help her.

I like this device, but I had a small problem. I got two new reclinerd and attached cabinet from Lazy-boy. t is comfortable, but I just could not get out of chair without help! The chair arms were soft and I could not pull myself forward on the chair. So I am using it on the right side reclining chair which is attached to a small cabinet (by Lazy-Boy). I found it worked great, but device's left leg blocked access to the cabinet drawer and I could not open it. So I bought a second device without legs from Vive. I felt this device might not be strong enough to hold my weight when I stood up, as it's legs to not reach the floor. But I took one handle assembly from the Vive Device and inserted it into this device in place of the sturdy leg and handle that came with it and that gave me access to the cabinet, as well as a strong leg that could hold my weight. The Vive device might have been strong enough it I just used it, but I was unsure, and I am a bit heavy, and I was just uneasy about it holding my weight. I assembled the device and put it on my recliner. It was easy to install - I had to work around the linked cushioning between the seat and the back, but it was easy to do. They provide a handy Allen wrench with the product. I then took the handle assembly from the Vive device and found that I could insert it into this device. I had to hammer it 'in' a tiny bit to line up the mounting holes, but it was easy to do. It replaced the handle and leg assembly from this manufacturer. I am a little nervous as the device slides 'up' a tiny bit when I lean on it and use it to pull myself forward on the chair. I am concerned to may wear out the leather or naugahide material as it rubs against it. I may drill a hole in the horizontal member and attach a long wood screw through it to hold it down. Not sure yet. But all-in-all, I am very happy with the product. I could not get myself out of the chair without it. I sit too far back in the chair, and 'sink' into it. This device is a God-send, as I can now pull myself forward by the handles and lean on them to pull myself up. My wife had to help me out of the chair before. I simply could not get out of it! So - but it with confidence unless you have a cabinet attached to the side of your chair!

Bought one of these for my then 94 yo mother, after she kept falling forwards trying to rock out of her chair. This has greatly improve her safety and improved maneuverability - in terms of being able to get up more regularly with ease. Some arm strength required to pull herself up but at 95 now, she's still finding it much easier than the old process of getting up. Well made product, strong and fairly easily assembled.

Acheté pour une personne âgée ayant des difficultés pour s'asseoir et se relever d'un fauteuil. Solide et stable. S'adapte bien au fauteuil. Pas si simple à installer quand on n'y connait rien mais il y a pire. Faire plusieurs essais de réglage jusqu'à obtention de la hauteur et largeur désirées. Est sensé supporter 136 Kilos mais j'en doute. Aide vraiment appréciable et appréciée. Je ne regrette pas mon achat et le recommande vivement. Pour les personnes très corpulentes, se diriger plutôt vers le "Stander Heavy Duty EZ Stand-N-Go". J'ai l'air de faire de la pub mais pas du tout. C'est juste que j'ai recherché ces aides à la mobilité pendant de nombreux mois (quasi inexistantes en France) et maintenant que je les ai trouvées, pourquoi ne pas en faire profiter autrui? D'autant qu'elles sont difficiles à dénicher sur Amazon car il faut trouver la bonne dénomination. Moi, je suis tombée dessus par hasard. Et il a bien fait les choses. Je suis convaincue que cette aide va faciliter le quotidien de bien des personnes âgées, blessées ou handicapées.

A really useful mobility aid, bought for my mother to help her get out of a soft chair. Well made, robust, adjustable and comfortable to use, I can strongly recommend it.

Works very well with my husband's recliner. Does not interfere with how the recliner works. Gives him just the extra boost and stability to make it eaaier to get up out of the chair during his recovery. Very clever design. Easy to put together.

I order this for one of my senior clients and it has helped her tremendously. Before she started using this she struggled to get up off the couch and now with this device she can get up without struggling.
