Need to control a remote mounted BT amp in ceiling.
Works fine, although I found that attaching the IR sender light directly to the front of the device was almost necessary - not sure it floods an area well, so ,closer to IR eye, the better. The adhesive tape lasted less than 24 hours, but since the amp was located out-of-sight, just wrapped the sender with duct tape to the amp face - very Red Green-like! Remote to IR receiver isn't terribly sensitive either, but I'm usually within a foot or two of it and it seems to take the input predictably. Not sure this would be a great solution for someone trying to control a device from across the room - just doesn't seem to be all that sensitive on either end, but it works for my situation. Was looking for a simple solution vs. crawling up through a ceiling access panel to restore operation in the event of a power outage, which automatically sets my amp back to the line input as a default. I keep the amp and IR sender unit powered 24/7 so only trouble occurs when power drops. Now I just walk up to sensor on wall and change input with remote, but any change to amp - input, volume, or FM channel, etc.,, fairly easy now. Well worth the reasonable cost If it still works after a year or two, probably still worth it and if not, I'll get another one or similar.

Worked better than anticipated.
Got this to use on my A/V receiver that sits on the bottom shelf of the entertainment rack and is partially blocked by a coffee table. It meant having to hold the remote up in the air and point it down toward the unit to change volume or other settings. Or when turning off everything with a Harmony remote, it would leave the A/V on. Would have liked to get one with a phono plug on the transmitting end since I have the input on the A/V but at this price and good reviews, it seemed a no-brainer to give it a try and see if it worked.Installation was a breeze and they give you plenty of wire. I used the USB port on the back of the cable box for power which eliminated the need to plug in something else into an outlet. Though the receiver and the small transmitter are self adhesive, I just placed the receiver in front of the cable box, and merely hung the transmitter over the top of the A/V in front of the IR window. I was absolutely amazed at the difference it made. The receiver works so well, I can point the remote up and to the wall behind me and it works like a charm. For the price, it was money well spent and see no reason to try a different one with the plug.

Does what it should. Foolproof simplicity.
This "IR Bug" is exactly what you expect it to be. It and works and has reasonably long cables. I bought a 60 inch TV to put over the fireplace so having the old TV cabinet open to control the Tivo and Stereo was unacceptable to my wife. All of the equipment except the Tivo works with HDMI-CEC protocol, (Why Tivo, why???) so I just needed one transmitter for theTivo. I was able to plug it in, slap the receiver against the front of the now-closed stereo cabinet, the transmitter near the Tivo receiver and I was done. Took about 3 minutes to install. The reason it only gets 4 stars is this. Wire routing. The IR receiver is the large item that goes outside the cabinet. Why, then, would that be in the middle of the wiring sequence with two wires (power and transmitter) running from it? I understand that this is the part with the electronics, but it is the farthest component from power and the farthest from the component to be controlled. Having two wires means you need to snake one wire from the external receive to your component and the other wire from the external receiver to the power source. Kind of a pain. The receiver should be at the end of the wire, the transmitter in the middle and the power closest to the transmitter. This isn't just a personal preference, it is simple wire routing logic.

Price Is Indicative of Quality
We just rearranged the living room and added a coffee table that blocks the DVR -- making it pretty difficult to control the TV. Found this as a cheap alternative to rearranging some more.It was easy to connect and at first, it worked very well. After about a week, I noticed that the DVR would not respond even though the receiver flashed when I pressed buttons on my remote. At the time, performance wasn't so bad that it bothered me too much -- plus I was thinking that the problem was with the DVR and not the remote extender. After two weeks, the problem became progressively worse -- to the point where it was frustrating to watch TV. By week three, we began avoiding the TV in the living room. After some troubleshooting, I found that the DVR worked fine when the remote signal was in its line of sight. That's when I requested a return of the product. To give you a bit of background: I'm 20-year electronics professional who has worked on nearly everything from radar systems to network backbone devices. There's not much to this gadget which is why it's disappointing that it did not work.

Great simple yet effective product
Was a bit wary of this product category since all choices had mixed reviews. Also it looked a little underwhelming when it came in a see through pouch like you see store brands of cables. There is no instruction manual. Just low resolution a color printout sheet. Which is all you need. Simply plugged in and it was set to go and worked perfectly.A couple of things:1. Took me a few seconds to locate where the receiver on my DVD player was - one of those funky design with curved colored plastic shell below which you see nothing except display bits when they light up. So I made a tube of sorts with one hand and pointed the remote through that along the length of the DVD player to locate roughly where the receiver was.2. No LED lights up when you plug it in so you cant tell if its on that way. But when you aim a remote at it and press something you will see a flicker of receiving. So use that to test if its on.Happy remoting.p.s. Have plugged into wall socket. Not tested connecting with USB for power.
