Not Sure
Smells like tea, faintly. However, I did my research prior to purchasing this product and I am kind of not sure of the quality I received. From my understanding the leaves should be rolled. I don't see anything like the images Google provides for authentic Gunpowder Green Tea. The leaves are Too Tiny to roll. Not sure how to feel about this product. 😕 UPDATE: I am upgrading my review to 5 stars. These leaves are actually rolled really tightly even though they look like small pieces of crushed leaves and don't resemble what I expected; they unfurl significantly! It only takes a couple pinches to make a nice cup of tea. This bag will last a long time. I enjoy the taste; it has much more depth than the store bought tea bags. I do recommend this tea❣️

Super new to drinking tea, but this stuff is great!
I am new to drinking tea, I won't lie. And the only other tea I've tried was a Rooibos Green Tea that was in much smaller particles. While I liked the taste, I didn't notice any effects on my energy levels or overall health. When that ran out, I decided to try a different brand and settled on this due to the price per ounce and the overwhelmingly popular reviews. I can definitely see why people like this so much! The biggest difference I've noticed in this is the size of the particles. This is tightly rolled "pellets" according to the listing, which will definitely explain why it expands so much while brewing. I can put a teaspoon of dry tea in the infuser and when I'm ready to drink it, it has expanded to 4 or 5 times that amount in wet leaves. So this is great if you have an infuser that allows it to uncurl properly, but if theres not enough room, I'm not sure if it will brew properly. I'm honestly not sure how this works. I have also noticed a huge difference in the energy levels this gives me. I have completely stopped drinking coffee and switched to this. I have more energy, it goes down easier, I don't get that gross sweaty feeling that coffee gives me, and I just feel "cleaner" overall. I am officially a fan of Green Tea! I did not like the taste at first as it was much more bitter than the kind I had been drinking, but I've found that if I add a small amount of high quality honey into it, it brings it down a notch and I really enjoy it. I'm incredibly happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it! Almost forgot to say that it would be a good idea to find a good airtight container to store most of this until you need it. I've moved about 2/3 of this bag into a container to keep it from going stale or losing nutrients. Its a big bag.

and gets bitter easily with water that is too close to boiling or ...
So many confusing reviews about this tea. Here's some straight dope from someone who has been drinking/researching teas for 20 years: * This is a gunpowder (zhu cha) tea, a type of rolled tea traditionally from Zheijiang in eastern China. There's very little information in the US about which Camelia Sinensis cultivars are used for gunpowders, so if you are looking for single-estate, mountain-grown or any other highfalutin' tea, this ain't it. * Davidson's website states it is from China, but it tastes sweeter and mellower than any gunpowder tea I've ever had before. Is it really from China? If so, where in China? * Davidson's has been in the herb business for 40 years, and works consistently to get organics into the marketplace. This is the kind of tea that's a step up from most tea-bagged stuff, and do not be surprised if you find it in the bulk section of your local health food store. * If you read other reviews here about rooibos or sencha, or from someone who was "trying green tea for the first time", please ignore those. * Gunpowder (zhu cha) is a particular kind of green tea that generally is tightly rolled and has a metallic and/or smoky flavor to it, and gets bitter easily with water that is too close to boiling or is steeped more than 1.5 minutes. That being said, Davidson's is the most forgiving gunpowder I've had. I get 3 to 5 decent steepings starting at 175F and working upwards with each steeping. I like to do short, 30 to 60-second steeps. * Davidson's is very loosely rolled and the nuggets not too far from the standard size for a gunpowder. Maybe these nugs are larger, but people who complain that this is not real gunpowder because it is not of the small pinhead type just don't have a lot of experience with the variety of gunpowders out there. No, this one doesn't look or taste very metallic. Yes, you need to use more of the leaf of Davidson's to get an equivalent strength of brew than with smaller pinhead types, but I don't see much need to veer too far from the "4g leaf to180 ml water" trope. * If you are new to loose-leaf tea, this is a good one to start with, though it is not fully indicative of the flavor profile of "typical" gunpowders. It's very drinkable, though. Nothing fancy here, folks, but it's not bad tea. I've made it one of my everyday green go-tos. The cost to quality ratio can't be beat, IMO for what it really is: an organic gunpowder tea that is bought and sold in large lots. * If you want to make a Moroccan-mint style tea with this, go for it. (When I lived in West Africa, the locals boiled cheap Chinese gunpowder for 30 minutes into a thick syrup with sugar and mint.) Davidson's tastes more fruity & less dusty than standard export gunpowder, so take that into account).

Good Organic Tea
This is a tasty tea. I would buy again. The color is pale and the flavor is very good. The zip lock bag of tea arrived timely and in good condition.

Divine-and I MEAN it!
I used to drink Monster and coffee like water-I was an ER nurse, and we chain smoked outside and drank caffeine like there were no tomorrow! Now that I’m 55, I can’t handle coffe on my stomach, so I am re-exploring various teas! I used to be a big green tea drinker-so I know a lot about it, sooooo! The tea smells lovely-it’s a HUGE package for the price of organic tea. Some people frown on gunpowder tea-but I appreciate the taste. I brewed 2 cups-carefully got the water to around 180 degrees. First cup-1 minute in my French press, the second cup, 3 minutes-perfection for my taste! A little raw honey-and I was in heaven. The 1 minute brew was lovely, sweet and tasty. I just prefer a bit more astringent but not to the point of bitter-and this tea did not disappoint! My 14 year old daughter drinks homemade matcha lattes every morning-but I may turn her on to this too-I don’t want her going down the caffeine highway way too young. And yes I know there is a bit of caffeine-but not like energy drinks kids try and sneak these days! Peace! ✌️

Delicious
I was looking to replace microplastic laden grocery store tea bags with loose tea and didn't really know where to start. I just randomly chose this tea and I got lucky. This is makes tea that turned my daily 2 cups of green tea "for health" into something I actually enjoy.
