JET 6-Inch Bench Grinder w/ Wire Wheel, 3450 RPM, 115V 1Ph (JBG-6W)

l ready had the 8 " version and liked it. This one is just as good. I agree with others that my wire wheel seemed out of balance, but I replaced it with a higher quality one and it runs out smoothly. I bought the 8" and this one mainly due to the dust collection system on them, but they seem to be solid heavy duty units.

The base and wheel guards have the appearance of chinese pot metal, but description says cast iron. Tag says made in Taiwan, which gave me a lot more confidence in the quality than if had said made in china. Motor hums nicely and doesn't bog down when you apply pressure, no unbalance type vibration. I want to remove the wheel cover on the wire wheel, but it is not clear how it's held on. I'm going to have to take the wire wheel off to see behind it, how it's fastened. I noticed the price has jumped fortytwo dollars in the month since I purchased.

This is a well built, quality machine. It's powerful and quiet with well balanced wheels that each have a 2" (OD) dust port on the back. The problem is that the average shop vac hose is 1 1/2" OD so you will need an adapter to go from a shop vac to the dust outlets on this machine. I don't know which adapter - yet - but I'll figure it out and post it here. I like this machine, wish it had included an adapter for a shop vac (issue 1) and also with they had included an online registration card for the warranty (1/2 of another issue) - that's the 1 and 1/2 issues. Who still uses mail in warranty cards? Apparently Jet does. But overall this is a well made bench grinder for $200. 1 day later - I did come up with a dust collector "fix" for this Jet machine that accommodates a standard shop vac hose - see attached photos. I used a 2" in wall vacuum pipe 90 degree coupler and six #28 rubber O-rings, placing three O-rings on each of the dust port outlets. #28 O-rings are 1.5" ID and 1.75" OD. I know, it's a pretty esoteric "fix" but I had these parts in my shop and it took me about 5 minutes. If anyone else knows of a standard connector/adapter that works, please share.

Easy as pie. Other than drilling into the concrete was a little bit of a pain.

This is one of the bench grinders you can hand down to your children this thing's well made performs perfectly would recommend it to any aircraft mechanic also

Unfortunately very disappointed with this grinder. Wheels it came with are not balanced and when you turn on the unit you feel much vibrating. You can only use it in a bolted permanent position. Very poor paint job of the wheel housing. As I had to monkey with it so it is usable, much of the paint wore off. Base is uneven which appears is in the casting ( it‘s not my table that is off).

For the name, and the price it demanded, i expected something above average--maybe even well above average. It's louder than my old grinder, spins down very quickly after you shut it off, and doesn't seem to be any more powerful (old grinder is about 20 years old--porter cable). For one of the most expensive grinders you can buy at this HP--I expected something special, and got something average at best. Maybe it will last longer than other 6 inch grinders, but it's not the precision piece of machinery I was hoping for at the price I paid--and it's definitely not a workhorse.
