A Mixed Bag
i bought this product for my Ecopsort Ecoboost 1.0 litre. After having installed it, I'm not sure yet whether i like this product. FYI, this was not my first tryst with a K&N Air Filter, i have one installed in my Swift 1.3L Petrol and it has done wonders for that car. However, my experience after having fitted one into the ecosport has been a mixed bag. For starters, i received a package which was not sealed at all and in pretty bad shape. However, the K&N Air Filter inside the package was protected by an additional plastic cladding which i hope was not tampered with. After replacing the stock air filter with the K&N one, what was immediately noticeable was that the turbo lag of the ecoboost engine was considerably reduced and i daresay, it almost felt like a natural aspirated one, except perhaps not as free revving. Therefore, driveability in traffic has improved massively. However, the flipside of it has been that the considerable surge of power that used to kick in after the turbo spooled up i.e. after around 1500 rpm is now missing. I understand that as the response has become more instantaneous, the turbo boost once it kicks in might not be felt any longer. However, what i do feel is that the acceleration, post the initial quick response, has slowed down. It no longer accelerates with the urgency (or rather, with the quickness) with which it used to post 1500 rpm. Acceleration post 1500 rpm with the stock air filter used to be very strong. It just seems to be missing that zing now. Will switch back to the original filter and check the acceleration times to figure out whether the loss of performance higher in the rev range is all in my head or a matter of perception since the nature of power delivery has changed.

Excelente recambio

Ford fiesta 2011 1.4 tdci - good filter, easy to fit
Fitted to a 1.4 tdci 2011 fiesta. The filter fitted fine but it took a fair bit of research to confirm that it would. In the end I found the Ford part number and then used the cross reference chart on the K&N website. I did not buy this for any performance improvements but for the ease of maintenance and cost savings. Even OEM filters for the car cost around 16 pounds so after just 2 replacements you break even on the cost of this filter. Also the filters are of much better quality and unlikely to fail like the cheaper paper ones. I always fit K&N filters to my bikes and cars for these reasons and have always been happy with them. As to improved fuel consumption and performance these may well improve a bit but only if the original filter wasn't flowing as much air as the car needed. I have noticed a small difference over the OEM filter but very little over the original that was fitted. But this is on a 68hp diesel bought for economy, not performance. So this filter can perk your car up if the original filter was bad or dirty, but its better to think of the main benefits being better quality, longer life and less frequent maintenance. Then any performance improvements are a bonus.

Great product
I have been using K&N Air Filters for better than a decade now. On this particular application, I noticed that the thickness of the filter was reduced dramatically. The OE was near 2 inches in depth compared to the K&N less than 1 inch. I was not expecting (but hoping for) improved performance or fuel economy. What I have noticed is that there is now little to no throttle lag when I apply the accelerator. This is true for both starting from a stop, or reapplying the accelerator after turning a corner. I contribute this to the reduced amount of filter media the air needs to pass through. Another point of consideration is that an OE style filter for this application is a bit expensive (approx. $20). This filter will pay for it self within 30,000 miles (if you normally replace a filter around every 15,000 miles). Also it is an easy install. I have my 6 and 3 year old sons do most of the work. I love teaching them automotive and handy work at such a young age!
