Systane Balance Lubricant Eye Drops, Twin Pack, 10-mL Each

My eyes get dry with working on the computer all day, so my optometrist recommended these drops to sooth my tired eyes. So far the drops are working great - very soothing for my eyes.

They seem to help. I am no doctor though so take it for what it is worth. My eye dr recommended them to me and he seemed competent.

I was constantly experiencing extremely red eyes with irritation from going to pool three times a week. I went to an ophthalmologist and they recommended these. I've never had a problem since. I did try probably six different brands prior to this and just did not see the results that these offer.

I have had dry eyes for years and I finally brought it up to my optometrist recently. She took a look at the glands around my eyes with a microscope and found that I have Meibomian gland dysfunction. Here is what she said about it: This problem is one of the most common causes of dry eyes. Meibomian glands are the little glands that surround your eyelids near your eyelashes. Tears aren't 100% water, they have a little bit of oil (which comes from the Meibomian glands). If the glands get clogged and you don't have enough oil then the tears evaporate too fast leading to dry, red eyes.She said that there are two things you can do about it. You can add an eye drop like this which restores the oil layer (my optometrist specifically recommended Systane Balance and notes that "Systane ultra" isn't made with the same oil-restoring ingredients). This helps treat the symptoms. The other thing you can do is try to prevent the glands from getting clogged in the first place by applying warm compresses to your eyes a few times per day.In my experience, these things work great. Typical "red eye" drops like Visine just make my eyes feel even more dry an hour or two later (maybe because you are diluting the oils? I don't know). With this product I put two drops in each eye and I'm good for most of the work day. Don't be alarmed if the drops are cloudy-white, this is apparently normal and due to the small amount of oil in the drops. Overall I am very satisfied with this product but I'm giving it 4 stars simply based on how much it costs. Oh and mandatory disclaimer: see your eye doctor before starting any eye drops.

These last more than an hour for my dry eyes and are quite soothing. Less expensive when you purchase two at a time. Not irritating.
