As with any electronic toy PLEASE do not leave your cat unattended with this toy on. We move it to whatever room we’re in and turn it on and make sure it’s always in our line of sight when it is on. When it is off, you tuck the string behind the strap or wrap it around the door knob so that your cat will not chew it off and eat it. I took a video but can't figure out how to get it from my phone to my PC to post it with this review. Here are the problems: (1) No auto shut-off or remote control. These are desperately needed. I have more than once forgotten to turn it off before going to bed and worn down the batteries. (2) Eats batteries like candy. Rather than get up as soon as a cat finally walks away, turn it off, then have to get up again to turn it back on, I tend to leave it on for a good while. It is very quiet, which is a GOOD thing, but it is easy to forget it's still running. (3) Cats can easily jam it or pull the belt loose. There is a little orange piece that holds the belt at the bottom, and it gets pulled free at least once a day. Of course, the motor doesn't turn off. Last night I left it running by mistake. Today, doesn't work, so I put in new batteries. But - this time it still doesn't work. The motor is running but for some reason the belt isn't moving. So it's time to buy another one. I bought this one on July 1. It's now Nov. 4. So it has lasted less than 4 months (I didn't install it for about 10-14 days after receipt). So $30/3.5 it has cost about $8.50 a month. Considering how much Rocky and Chloe love the thing, I guess that's worth it, even if you include the aggravation.
