The Basement Watchdog 110 dB Water Alarm w/Detachable Sensor for Hard-to-Reach Areas (BWD-HWA)

These little things could save you a LOT of money. I own my home, and I do everything I can to protect it, and keep it and myself safe. I’ve had previous homes with water issues, and when I saw these I thought “ I’m buying one of these for every area where there is potential for water damage” Put one under any sink, behind every toilet, by your water heater, behind your washer, under your dishwasher and even I few placed strategically under the home where water lines run. Trust me, they are loud enough that you will hear them. They are quite small. (About the size of a pack of ciggies) and they use a 9v battery that will easily last 7-10 years. Just remember to change batteries out about every 5-7 years to be safe. They have multiple ways to use them. You can run the little cables to a specific place, or just set them on the surface under where water may go and your all set. To me, these are about as useful as smoke detectors if not more useful. Water can do a ton of damage if gone unchecked. I little drip can turn into you having to replace a floor, or worse. If you don’t buy something like this to prevent potential damage, it’s on you because these things are cheap enough that there is no excuse and it’s on you when SHTF.

In March of 2024, I purchased the “Basement Watchdog Model BWD-HWA 110 dB Battery Operated Water Alarm” from Amazon and good thing I did. I positioned the small sensors in the tray below my hot water heater in my laundry room. About two weeks ago, my hot water heater broke and the Basement Watchdog did its job! It set an alarm off. Yes, the alarm was loud but it was effective in alerting me to a leak that was taking place. The water alarm was reliable and easy to install, taking seconds to set up. It was effective in preventing water damage and it saved me thousands of dollars in potential damage! It really worked!!

This works great as many others have said.Sometimes, the sensing element could be placed away from the box .. like in a hard to access area. Once the alarm sounds, you may need to shut it off ASAP. Especially say you have an elderly person or a tenant who can't reach into wherever the sensor is installed.So it would be even better if they added a simple ON/OFF switch! There is LOTS of space inside to add a switch .. it's like one of those 1970's V8 engines, mostly empty space!I added a switch myself, see photo.

I have more than one of these. Original sits in a tray that is around the hot water heater as recommended by my plumber. A few years ago it went off to alert (loud beep) us the water tank was leaking (about a year before it was due to be replaced. Lucky we were home!! Bought extra for washing machine and under kitchen sink. Recently noticed a spot of water under bathroom sink so got another. No alerts & no leaks - just sweaty pipe.

Everyone should have several of these . It has saved us from leaks and floods many times . I’ve given them as stocking stuffers and house and apartment gifts for my kids and college apartments. This alarm is super loud. Great near dishwashers -under sinks- behind toilets and refrigerators- next to water heaters-. Beside tubs and showers One 9 volt battery and you’re ready to go. Floods are horrible . This will warn you and save you so much grief, damage and expense. I’ve been using these for at least 30 years . Tried and true, simple and cheap. If you need to silence it quickly when it’s detected water _just unsnap one of the sensors. This thing is fantastic!

Works great, saved me from a flooded basement when my old sump pump died. This alarm went off two days before I had an overseas trip of over 2 weeks. I was able to replace my sump pump prior to leaving and the timing couldn't have been better. Everyone needs one of these for their basement sump pump!

Had a defroster plugged which caused water to leak under my fridge. The water alarm was loud and let me know something was wrong. I recommend buying many of these and putting them under any water source.May 26-2016,Unit is now 2/2. Caught a leak under the kitchen sink. Turns out the pull out hose from the faucet developed a leak. No water damage because it was caught quickly. I have 8 of these scattered across the house and all it took was one to justify the cost for all of them.

Appears to be well made, time will tell how reliable it is. it is not as loud as some comments led me to believe but will probably be loud enough.

Fantastic! Slightest bit of water and it goes off. Sounds like your smoke detector would so it is plenty loud enough.Update! This is set up downstairs by our drainhole in the laundry room as we have a history of sewer backup. Last night it went off and we heard it no problem watching tv upstairs. We ran downstairs to find water starting to up. Thanks to this alarm we caught it instantly and had zero damage or cleanup
