Solid and Secure
Just flat towed a Jeep Wrangler 1300 miles with the SmittyBilt tow bar. Really simple installation. It felt more like I was driving a slightly larger vehicle rather than towing a second vehicle.

Tough Tow Bar
I had to give it three stars for the "ease of installation" because of the three inch bolts that hold the swivels on. I put over 200 lbs. of torque on them and still didn't get them all the way down. I have the tools to do it but I would guess most people do not. The nuts and bolts I'm talking about are consumable and only meant to be used once since you don't torque them down after the they're all the way down. I think I'm going to replace them with Grade 8 bolts and use castle nuts so they stay attached. Other than that, I really like the tow bar. It works great with the Smittybilt front bumper too.

Works well
This works well but doesn’t come with metal plates to hook to vehicle. We made our own

Love it - seems to be universal
Says to use with SmittyBilt bumper only. But works great on my aftermarket Paramount bumper. Highly adjustable and easy to assemble.

For a Jeep CJ, this is the perfect way to get to the trails.
I love my '86 CJ7 but, let's be honest, the CJ's designers never, ever uttered the words comfort nor comfortable during their design meetings. My '17 F250 or my wife's '21 JLU diesel on the other hand....Now I can ride the long trip to camp or to the trail in air-conditioned "comfort" and hit the trails fresh and ready for a long day bouncing in the hot AZ sun.Overall, it took about an hour to remove my factory bumper (marked width of frame on back-side first),measure and drill the mounting plates then reassemble the jeep and bumper then an additional hour to assemble the tow bar itself. Unfortunately, my package was missing parts which delayed assembly of the tow bar probably doubling the actual time it should have taken while I retrieved bolts from my own inventory. Not a fan of my seller but still love the product.

Just as good as those $1000 and up brands
I had no idea what I was doing when I decided to flat tow my Jeep TJ. I could not afford to make a $1000 or more purchase ( well, I couldn't justify it) for a system to pull my 23 year old jeep. I bought this and it attached to my bumper with out having to my the tow plate. I pulled my little Jeep all across the country behind my motorhome and I never had an issue. I would suggest that you purchase a auto braking system if you plan on towing a lot or for long trips. You can find those used.

Incredible Value
To get something better than this one would have to spend hundreds more for a Roadmaster Stowaway (with my new Smittybilt bumper I had to take the Roadmaster off my Jeep). I was really surprised how well made this Smittybilt Tow Bar is. The picture is misleading as this tow bar is amazing. Comes with extras to allow you to choose how you want to mount it. I have a Smittybilt bumper so it fit perfectly. Removing and replacing is a little more difficult due to its weight. I put it on an ice chest to support it for installing and for disconnecting. Be prepared to put a lot of muscle into those bolts that hold it on. I use it on my Jeep Wrangler so once I put the transfer case into Neutral all I have to do is grab the tow bar and pull the Jeep up to the hitch. Tracked very smoothly, no drifting. I highly recommend this tow bar. I tow it behind by pick up to places like Montana so I have it there to play around on back roads without having to drive it all the way there (from Oregon).
