A trouble-free replacement for halogen bulbs, but with a 75W (and not 100W or 150W) equivalence
--[ SEE UPDATE BELOW ]--We wanted to replace with an LED the 75W halogen bulb of a torchiere used occasionally for the low-level illumination of an upper floor landing. Following the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's conversion chart (Fig. A), we needed an LED providing 1100 lumens.1. There are many 10W-rated LED R7S bulbs of this kind (often claimed, incorrectly, equivalent to a 100W incandescent source). Selecting which one to buy is not easy, as most are made with 2835 SMD chips by a coterie of manufacturers in China. After comparing specs of 10W-rated LEDs sold here by various sellers claiming different lumen output, I opted for this version of the LED R7S bulb offered by Dayker, whose claim of a 1100-lm flux seems not unreasonable given the 96 chips in the bulb (as well as its chip-to-lumen ratio compared to that of an older version having less chips and lumens, still on sale here at the time of writing).2. The bulb arrived on time, in a packing box with drawings claiming a 150W equivalence. That is absolutely false, and so is the 100W-equivalence claimed in this Amazon page at the time of writing. To the naked eye, the brightness of this LED light looks almost similar, but not quite, to that of our old 75W halogen source, taking into account that naked-eye comparisons of LED and incandescent white lights often underestimate the former. I eschewed measuring the actual luminous flux of this LED and the old halogen bulb to confirm the sensory equivalence because the lux-meter app I have is valid only for incandescent sources, which produce white light differently to LEDs. (LED meters are configured to the JIS standard C 1609:1993 to correct for the LED white-light spectrum, while the traditional meters are configured to the CIE standard illuminant A to correct for the incandescent white-light spectrum.)3. As expected, the bulb fits well our standard torchiere receptacle. In an attempt to decrease light losses, I removed all the protection parts for the halogen bulb (Fig. B, left) as well as the heat metal shield (taking out the screws at its bottom; cyan circles in Fig. B, right) as this shield blocked out some of the light (compare Figs. C and D). In addition, the metallic holder for the bulb sockets was painted white with a spray primer (Figs. E and F). All this resulted in an illumination more similar to that provided by the old bulb.4. There is no flicker, delays, or other problems when the bulb is used without any dimming. The decade-old rotary dimmer of the torchiere attenuates the LED over the final 2/3 turn of its rotation without any problem; there is a brief delay for the LED to work at the strongest effective dimming levels, but there is no buzzing, flickering, or any other issues. It remains to be seen what will be the useful life of the claimed 50 000 hours lifespan of the bulb. So far, I am generally satisfied with it for the low-level illumination of the landing.UPDATEThis LED bulb has been working without problems since it was purchased about a year ago. The seller's prior claim in this Amazon page of 1100 lm has been reduced to 1000 lm (which is consistent with , but the page still erroneously describes the bulb as equivalent to a 100W incandescent source (in the text) and equivalent to a 150W source (the fourth figure from the top). Do not be mislead, this LED --with only 1000 lm and 10W-- is actually a little less than 75W.For those interested in brighter levels, last year we also replaced the 150W halogen bulb of another torchiere with a 20W, warm white LED R7S bulb SODIAL(R) that has 5730-SMD chips.

Replaced 150W Halogens: LOVE THESE!
I replaced four 150W halogens that seemed to go bad about once per year. Perhaps that was because I had them in a standard Leviton dimmer switch. The halogens scared me because they made the switch warm. They also had a slight “buzz” noise to them.I measured first to make sure the replacement lights (length AND diameter!!!) would fit in the my sockets. They do, but there wasn’t a lot of “diameter” to spare.I chose the 10W, 3000K, dimmable LED bulbs.WOW!!! If anything, they seem brighter than the halogens! And the quality of the light is much better. I think for a bathroom vanity, get the 3000K version. The dimmer works perfectly fine for these. The slider on the dimmer cuts off the lights about halfway down, but at that point the lights are very dim. The first photo show the dimmer on full. The last shows it right before the cutoff point. It was still daylight, late afternoon when I took the pics, so there was some ambient light in the room.I don’t have to worry about a “hot” light switch, and these are supposed to last 50,000 hours, which is like 17 years of continuous use, which means I should never have to replace a bulb again. Fine with me because I never liked getting up on a ladder and handling those fragile halogen bulbs. I was always afraid one would fail, gash my hand, and I’d bleed all over the bathroom followed by the Immediate Care for stitches.OK, they aren’t “cheap”, but when you add up the saved energy and never replacing a bulb again, they are well worth it.I knew that going in. My only concern was the brightness and quality of the light, which I find to be much better than the halogens I replaced.I don’t review many items, and I WAS NOT compensated in ANY WAY to write this review. I just wanted to spread the word.Save energy. Never replace a bulb again. More safety. Standard Leviton dimmer works. Better light. The 10W really is equivalent (or better) than a 150W halogen. No brainer. Get them.Just make sure you don’t get one too big (diameter) to fit your fixture. But my fixtures are pretty standard, so you should be OK with the 10W size.

Fantastic product!
What a find! I had a 500-watt portable work light with a halogen bulb. The good news - it was VERY bright - illuminated the work area wonderfully. The bad news - it was VERY hot - the halogen bulb made it almost impossible to handle. When I saw this 180-watt LED bulb, I couldn't imagine that it would be even close to as bright as the halogen bulb. But the halogen bulb had burned out, and I needed a work light occasionally, so I bought the LED. Wow! I didn't measure the before and after brightness, but I believe the LED is just as bright as the halogen. Great product!

Perfect replacement for halogen light bulb for torchiere lamp
Perfect replacement for halogen light bulb for torchiere floor lamp. The halogen light got too hot after a short time so I never used it, but now can leave it on for hours. Maybe it’s not a 100w light, but does what I want it for. It’s thicker than the halogen bulb so the protective cover is flush against the bulb, but isn’t really needed anymore.

Dim and didn't last long.
This was bought to replace my original halogen bulb. I was a bit disappointed that it was not as bright as the halogen, but I could live with that as the energy savings were significant and more importantly, it burned relatively cool, so extra heat in the room was no longer an issue and the potential for an accidental fire from something contacting it was eliminated. But two years later, with minimal use, it seemed to be getting dimmer and then started flickering. It quickly reached the point of useless and I have now reinstalled the halogen bulb. LEDs are supposed to last thousands of hours and this one certainly didn't. So even thought I saved a few bucks on energy, the lower light levels and it's early demise make it a "fail".

Perfect Halogen replacement
Have an old halogen ceiling fixture in the kitchen, rather than replacing the fixture tried this build to replace a 150W halogen bulbs Fits perfect and provides a nice light. Not as yellow as the halogen but not too bright like some LEDs.
