Very blah!
This is literally "just okay" (3 stars). The berries are very dark, which is a sign that they have been stored in direct sunlight for a long time and/or are not very fresh. The taste of zereshk (barberries) is meant to be very tart, very sharply sour, but these are very mild, another sign they were stored improperly by Urban Platter. Given that this ingredient is not very common in India perhaps UB doesn't know how to store them or even buy them fresh from their wholesalers? Or I suspect that because of low demand the berries remain in storage for a very long time with UB. Either way, if you can source zershk from any other place (there are Iranian expats and Iranian-Indians in Mumbai who regularly travel and are happy to sell you things), avoid Urban Platter's zereshk. It certainly isn't worth the price for "just okay" quality. Will using these ruin your dish? No. Will they add anything to your dish? Not a whole lot.

Wow! Zarishk on Amazon!!
So thrilled to get an unusual ingredient like the Persian Zarishk as it's a favourite.

Overpriced but Authentic
Its sour taste confirms this is authentic, unlike barberries from Indian Jadibooti and Yuvika which are clearly sweetened. Urban Platter had a 500 gm option earlier which is no longer available. The 100 gm version is overpriced, so I hope the 500 g will be restored soon.

Make the Best Persian Food Ever - Jeweled Rice
Soak these ultra-nutritious berries in water and add to rice. They are Persian so my favorite dish to make with these is Jeweled Rice aka Wedding Rice. You add these with blanched carrot and orange peels in sugar to pistachios and golden raisins with rose water and orange blossom water for a fragrant delight. It is usually served with rose petals spread around for presentation.

Agree with previous review
Disappointing. The berries are dark and not that tart. Perhaps they have been stored too long and are old. A really good zereshk is redder and has a nice tart taste. These are brown. Also be sure that you parse the zereshk one by one and wash them before use. This is to ensure that there are no pieces of sticks or stones that might have mixed in with them during processing.
