Bruno Coulais: Coraline Origintal Motion Picture Soundtrack Vinyl 2LP

I feel that Coraline was Henry Sellick's brilliant response to the cringe factory that is Tim Burton's fanbase and legacy. I'll go into it, but basically (TL;DR) by going with Bruno Coulais as a composer, and using a score of french children singing gibberish (instead of the washed-up singer of Oingo Boingo) Henry Sellick confidently proves he can organize a better team, direct a better film, and treat Burton's fans to a far better experience than Burton ever has, or will in the director's seat. This score alone makes it apparent that Coraline is a film which easily out-Burtons any Tim Burton film."BuT whAt abOut TIm BurtOn's ThE NiGhtmAre BefOre ChristmAs? DidN't yOu likE It??"Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was directed by Henry Sellick.Burton did little more than draw the characters up in his journal between napping at his desk and pulling his own teeth out with plyers while he was SUPPOSED to be helping Disney with The Fox and the Hound movie. (If you are wondering how Disney stole Nightmare from Touchstone, that's how.)Henry Sellick, with The Nightmare Before Christmas, gave us something fantastic and special which enriched our collective childhoodnd in the '90s.And how did we thank him?By worshipping and deifying the first impish poorly groomed faux-introvert who was willing to take all the credit for it.Since then, Burton has tried time and time again to insist to all of us that he actually is the dark, broody little artist you all hoped he'd be. The man is a charlatan at worst, and a fool at best, succeeding only once in his directing career with Corpse Bride (which is admittedly a masterpiece).So Burton Finally makes his Corpse Bride, and his fans finally get what they paid for. A dark, romantic, heavily stylized piece of real art with victorian-influenced musical numbers! Now at this point we were feeling all content and sure that old Timmy-boy was indeed the broody little artist we pegged him for, and waited eagerly to see if he'd continue to impress us...which he would not.And how does Sellick respond?By making an intensely more intricate and interactive stop-motion set, by inventing intensely more likeable and relatable characters (an area where the book Coraline fell short), by conceiving a chillingly immersive universe for the events of the book to unfold in, and most importantly of all, putting Bruno Coulais on the payroll.Sellick knew that, despite all of this, none of us would be jumping off of the Tim Burton Express (TM,CC,SMFH) any time soon for some Bloke named Henry Sellick whom we hadn't ever seen on the Disney channel or MTV even ONCE.Sellick Knew you wouldn't give him a chance, which is why the Trailer sold it to you as being "From the director of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas"Henry Sellick is too good for us, and we don't deserve or appreciate him.Everything since out of Burton has been contrived trash which seems geared only to keep the breathing-impaired and sweatstained returning to Hot Topic perpetually for yet another black totebag filled to the brim with cheaply made make-up and graphic tees.If you think I am being overly critical or unfair, please listen to the Coraline film score. The media could not be loaded. I got the eco vinyl and it’s amazing! Keep in mind it’s made of recycled materials, so every vinyl is a different color/pattern! Mine happened to be a cool green marble with some reds and blues. Both of my vinyls are quite different. The other one turned out as a pale blue with some of the same colors as the first one. I think it’s perfect, arrived quick and plays perfect! The eco vinyl is so cool and so unique!

I don't usually buy a soundtrack before seeing the movie it belongs to, but I had to make an exception for the Coraline. To the point that I bought it at quarter after midnight on Feb. 2 then settled in for some serious listening. My first impression was that The soundtrack sounded more or less the way I'd imagined it would. Meaning highly atmospheric and slightly well, more then slightly excentric. Bruno Coulais seems to have made a deliberate effort to create music that is not easily defined. I have to say in my opinion he succeeded. The music for Coraline to me most resembles somthing like an auditory jigsaw puzzle where the pieces don't seem like the should fit together but somhow they do beautifully. Admittedly it took a few listens to fully grasp what Coulais intended, and the more I listend the more I got it, and I realized the genius of it. At first I was a little put off by the lack of clearly defined themes and motifs found in more tradtional film scores. You can't really point to any one of the 32 songs on the album and say, here is Coraline's theme, or there is the theme of the Other Mother. And yet there is a subtle character signature on some of the pieces. While other songs feel more like vivid tableaus. In short the Coraline Soundtrack does what a really good soundtrack is meant to do, which is to tell a story in and of it's self, without depending on the film. Bruno Coulais manages to capture with stunning uniquenss the creative force that is Neil Gaiman's Coraline.Just a few things to note. I'n to sure that this album will be everyones cup of tea, that is an almost experimental vibe to the music which could turn some poeple off. absolutely magical soundtrack!! vinly came securely packaged in perfect condition. woundful sound quality. thank you!!!

Really struggled trying to get the right sound out of this record. I kept trying by cleaning and eliminating static and balancing and still couldn’t eliminate what sounded like an immediate warble. I left the room to help my wife and when I came back I realized everything was too slow. It doesn’t say anywhere I saw, but these two records are meant to be played at 45rpm instead of 33. After that, no issues and the wife loves it when I play it for her.

I was heartbroken once I saw that it was out of stock on the LAIKA website. :( Coraline is my favorite movie. The seller I got it from was very kind and sweet. It didn’t take a while to arrive, shipping was quick and easy. I was scared I wasn’t going to get the colored version, but I did! That’s exactly what I wanted. The pattern on the record is beautiful. Such a vibrant color. I can’t wait to listen to it. It’s very hard to find this nowadays, especially at a good price. Thank goodness I was able to find it on Amazon when I did. I’m a satisfied customer. ❤️

I was worried by some of the other reviews I wouldn't get the pink swirl as shown on the ad but I did get it and it's beautiful! Well worth the money, even when they delivered the record they made sure to deliver it upright (records shouldn't lay flat). All in all, it's a little pricey but it is an amazing listening experience and a great piece to add to your collection!

Love the music.Love the outer sleeve/gatefold.Disappointed that the vinyl was not the coloured version.Oh well,luck of the draw I guess.
