Liddell Hart's History of the First World War first appeared in 1930 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest, most cogent accounts of the conflict ever published. A leading military strategist and historian who fought on the Western Front, Liddell Hart combines astute tactical analysis with compassion for those who lost their lives on the battlefield. He provides a vivid and fascinating picture of all the major campaigns, balancing documentary evidence with the testimony of personal witnesses to expose the mistakes that were made and why. From the political and cultural origins of war to the twists and turns of battle, to the critical decisions that resulted in such devastating losses and to the impact on modern nations, this magnificent history covers four brutal years in one volume and is a true military classic. Excellent view on tactics of both sides
Excellent view on tactics of both sides, giving credit who deserve including German generals and criticizing who deserve.Complete and fair view as military historian of the war.Just needed more maps for a little better understanding of maneuvers on battlefield.

World war 1
This book has been written with European readers in mind. If you are not familiar with the locations and names of the military leaders of the countries involved it becomes tough to follow. The author doesn't introduce the main characters and places to familiarise readers. He assumes that the reader is familiar. So in almost all new chapters one has to google the names of people and places to understand.

Good starting point
Read this book years ago and having another read following a visit to northern France. As a one volume history, it is rather good and I am enjoying getting into it again. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who wanted a good introduction to WW1.
