I could have gotten a small but big I can work with, too small I can't do a thing with also, I like the freedom that this medium gives. I think it runs true to size, it is a pullover and the top fits like a t-shirt kinda with room in it, not blousey but comfortable. It is long on me and I wore 3 1/2 in heels so it did not drag. This is a really nice dress I want to buy more. If you have hips which unfortunately I don't; I think it will hid any excess. **Q: Does this dress have an elastic waist ?** A: Not sure if the dresses are made differently but my dress did not have an elastic waist which made it difficult for me to put on. In order for the dress to look as it does in the seller's photos and not like Elizabeth Bennet would wear it, the waist must be worn at your true waist, which means pulling the bodice down and tight. When the waist is pulled down like this the dress is the perfect length, just brushing the tops of my feet. The pockets were a big plus! The super soft material is comfy and flowy. Unfortunately the strings to hold the belt in place fell apart the second I touched them. Short ladies about 5'4 will have to hem an inch or so off the dress.
