As one of the leading foodies on our team, I'm always looking for more interesting and better tasting food. But, it can be hard to come by when you are on a strict program, busy, and don't like to repeat recipes over and over. So, when I asked my nutritionist (who is highly educated and experienced in yeast elimination programs) for help, she found a great cookbook to try. If you are like me and love the clean flavors of Mediterranean food and the spice palate of North African cuisine, then Mediterranean Paleo Cooking can help you stay on your eating program, get healthier, and lose weight. What I Liked about Mediterranean Paleo The information about the authors, their backgrounds, and approach to food really got me into the mood to try the recipes. Even more impressive was the wonderful information that the authors shared about Mediterranean cuisine, what they'd learned about health and lifestyle, and how to put together Mediterranean and Paleo cooking. What comes from this fusion is over a hundred very tasty, healthy recipes that you can eat or serve to company. My favorite recipe is roasted garlic cauliflower hummus. When you first are on the elimination diet, you can't eat beans. I was looking for something quick to eat when I was hungry and busy. The cauliflower hummus had a great texture, nice flavor, and was great with lightly blanched veggie sticks (I don't get much benefit from completely raw veggies because I had a gut reroute years ago.). If you eat completely raw veggies, keeping some of the cauliflower hummus on hand is a huge time saver. What I Would Improve about Mediterranean Paleo There are recommendations for using a slow cooker for many of the recipes. I did try this, and I would caution you that the slow cooker versions are not "drop in the pot and let 'er cook." You need to brown the meat, toast the spices, etc., in order to have similar results to stove top cooking. Sometimes this means a few more dirty pots or pans to wash, but it was worth it to improve the overall texture and flavor of the food. So, I wish the authors had emphasized this more in the "busy people's prep" instructions. I just purchased one of the latest makes of pressure cookers, and I haven't had a moment to try these recipes in the pressure cooker, but I'm thinking that browning and toasting is going to be useful when I do. Overall Rating for Mediterranean Paleo I would give this cookbook five stars for anyone who is paleo, whole30, yeast reducing, or on any sort of an allergy elimination eating plan. The recipes are tasty, easy to use, and have ingredients that fit in these eating plans very easily. Review: Awesome cookbook, whether you're eating Paleo or not! - I love this book! I have a dear friend who has been struggling for years with an autoimmune disorder, and last fall found a doctor who prescribed eliminating all gluten, grains and dairy from her diet. The change in her health has been extraordinary. She was coming to visit, and since I knew what she was doing sounded very much like the Paleo diet, I started looking at cookbooks so I would know what to cook for her while she was here. And I also felt it wouldn't hurt for me to eat more healthily as well, lose a little weight and get more protein in my diet. Many of the Paleo cookbooks have very one-track menus, or seem very heavily focused on substituting ersatz stuff for real food, which is why this book has been such a wonderful revelation. It's all real food, with tweaks and substitutions suggested, but it's a very relaxed feel and offers so many options, including reasons why something is or is not recommended. The nutritionist's notes are some of the best, most helpful and positive, and least intrusive I've ever seen in any cookbook. She has a small paragraph at the bottom of each recipe, explaining why something is good for you, what it can contribute to your overall health, without clubbing you over the head with it. There's also a little box listing each of the major Paleo-style diet plans, and what you need to know to adjust the recipe for whatever it is you're doing. It makes life so much easier, I wish every cookbook had those. I also love reading Caitlin and Nabil's stories about how they arrived at these recipes, and in particular when she goes to visit his family in Algeria, how there was no drama over food, they simply effortlessly adjusted the recipes so she could eat them. That relaxed feel is all the way through the book, and I find I'm not thinking at all about "oops no, can't have that, nope, can't give my friend that"; it's much more "wow, that sounds really good, I can't wait to cook that!" I think everyone should have this in their library, whether they are eating Paleo or not (I only eat Paleo about half the time). It's good to have a stash of go-to recipes if you find you are cooking for someone with dietary restrictions, and the recipes are good enough that you will cook them for yourself when no one's looking!

Just YUM!
First of all, this is a beautiful book. The photography is stunning and all the food looks so delicious! The edges of the pages in the recipe section are designs that look based on Algerian and Moroccan tile. Just lovely! Then there is all the information on Mediterranean cuisine and grain-free eating, GMOs, poultry quality, bone broth, nutrition, omega-3s, meal plans for autoimmune protocol and more. Lastly, of course, are the recipes. Breakfast, appetizers, soups, pizza and pasta, poultry, red meat, seafood, odd bits, vegetable sides, and desserts. Each recipe is coded so you know if it is nut-free, egg-free, low-FODMAP, AIP-friends, SCD/GAPS, and/or lower carb. I have made several recipes from this book and found each easy to make and delicious. Lemon pound cake, delicious. Chocolate Pistachio bites: addictive. Strawberry Coffee Cake, so moist. Savory Breakfast Sausage: amazingly flavorful. Next up: Meatball Chakchouka (shakshouka), one of my favorite Israeli dishes. If you are looking for flavorful recipes that are easy to make and delicious to eat, this is the book for you. Enjoy!

Top Notch Book
I normally don't buy cook books, but was inspired by the title, as I do eat paleo as an anti-inflammatory diet to assist in healing my hypothyroidism. I had to remove all grains to get my antibodies down, and may diet is limited due to allergens. I was extremely surprised by the excellent quality on all levels that surpassed my expectations. There is an entire menu plan, with a breakdown of preparatory tools to get started which is a bonus since I cook at a very basic level and don't have time to look for extra tools, and extra nutritional notes are broken down simply so you don't have to go surfing on the web for explanations. The book is a nice big size and I would make excellent gifts to anyone interested in Paleo cooking. I'm a professional art publisher, and I know what it takes to get everything to fit and look good on text. The book is layed out beautifully. The photos are excellent and modern. The whole package shows the authors passion and individuality, by giving us a written bio from each contributor. I have food allergens towards healthy foods such as garlic, dairy, coconut oil, and tomatoes. However, I felt that with my own variations and substitutions the recipes are still rich, creative, and full of nutrition. I have an Asian background, and will incorporate fundamental parts of some recipes and preparation with my own sauces and foods. Well done and will be looking forward to follow up books.

easy to make and definitely a go-to recipe
I cook a lot and am always looking for healthy, gluten-free, and paleo-ish recipes so this cookbook definitely appealed to me from the beginning. I've tried the following recipes so far- paleo pizza crust- delicious, easy to make and definitely a go-to recipe. fig and ginger tajine- I loved the sweet flavor of the figs, would have loved to have a crispy skin on the chicken, so I think I will put it in the broiler next time but the flavor combination was divine. Carmelized onion soup- OH.MY.GOSH- I loved this and have thought about it again less than a week later. savory chicken kabobs- these were delicious! and the marinade was easy to make. Paleo moussaka- again another great dish. Siva's meatballs and cauliflower- this was a comforting, homey, perfect easy weeknight dish. I really enjoyed it and the leftovers. Overall, the recipes have been great. My only criticism would be that most dishes have needed extra salt but that is largely a personal preference. The book is so stunning though, I love to pull it out just to look through the pages and am looking forward to trying many more recipes in the future!

A gem!
Finally a cookbook to combine a paleo way of eating with my favorite cuisine! This book is truly a gem. Even those who don't prescribe to a paleo lifestyle will appreciate this book; each recipe I've tried has been delicious. So far, I've made: -Siva's cauliflower and meatballs: So simple, and so good! Who would have thought to put cinnamon in meatballs! -Chicken and olive tagine: The dish on the cover. Will definitely make again. -Golden raisin slaw: I've made this twice already. An easy, no-cook side dish. -Mock potato salad: Made with turnips and a homemade aioli. -Sweet potato muffins: The first paleo baked good I've made that isn't a disaster! In fact, they're moist and delicious! -Braised liver and mushrooms: Not for everyone, but I'm a liver lover. -Coconut macaroons: a great way to use up leftover egg whites after making aioli. There are dozens of other recipes I can't wait to try. What I love most about this book is that if you've got several staple ingredients and spices on hand, you can make almost anything in the book. It really makes this book accessible and useable; you don't need to run around searching for obscure ingredients. The only portion of this book I don't see myself using is that pizza/pasta section. I just have no interest in making paleo-friendly pizza, and I'm not a huge fan of pasta as it is. But for those with an interest, I'm sure this section of the book is great. This is easily the best cookbook I've purchased in a while, and I'll be cooking from it for years to come.

Skip the hype but enjoy the recipes
Skip the hype but enjoy the recipes. As a research scientist working in the field of metabolic diseases and obesity, I found a lot of the introductory material regarding gluten, gluten-free diets and such to be just a lot of opinionated hype. Bottom line, unless you have been diagnosed with celiac disease, there are no solid, peer-reviewed data suggesting that gluten free diets are any healthier than those containing gluten. Mankind has been eating gluten for thousands of years and has managed to do quite well with respect to this protein. Having said that, I do find the recipes very interesting and quite good, actually. Some of the ingredients may be hard to find, but not overly so. I've tried several and they have all turned out great. You'll find a lot of ideas for tagines, and many of the recipes are poultry based. I've also found that if some of these work with chicken, they might also work with fish or veal (if you are so inclined). My advice, for what it's worth, is to skip the introductory material and dive into the recipes.

A gorgeous book filled with Mediterranean goodies
This book is gorgeous, full of stunning photographs that make you feel like you're sat out in the Mediterranean. Everything looks so fresh, authentic and delicious - I didn't know what to make first! I love the descriptions above the recipes, giving titbits of Mediterranean cooking and also the experiences of Caitlin and Nabil when visiting his homeland. You really feel like you're getting an insight into Nabil's family and the wonderful food they lovingly make for each other. So far, I've made three recipes. Over and over again because I love them so much! It's rare for a new recipe to make its way into our rotation but Savoury Chicken Kebabs have achieved that accolade. We can't get enough of the flavours and ingredients, often we can whip them up from leftover meat and veggies in the fridge. The second recipe I've made numerous times is the sesame candies, which are just like sesame snaps my Mum gave me as a child but with an extra delicious edge. The spices add to the wonderful sticky, satisfying treats and they totally kill any sweet craving. The macaroons were delicious but didn't come out perfectly as I messed up the quantities, whoops! They still tasted fab though! If you love easy recipes from the Med, made simple to understand, Paleo and with tips from a chef and nutritionist (not to mention alterations for specific dietary requirements like AIP and low-carb) this is a great book for you
