Quality, craftsmanship, and small investment
Works great so far while testing a soft plywood and the Douglas Fir 2x4 I had lying around. Very simple to guide and move along both surfaces. I’m between projects at the moments so I haven’t had the chance to use it to its full function within the process of woodworking. What I can say is that it was sharp enough for sure to get the markings. The overall tool is light weight and easy to use. I like that there are spare blades that come well packaged in their own individual container. The rod, brass, and blade come in their own wrapper as well. I think some kind of mini case will go well with this type of device so now I can probably cut my own up using this little guy. As someone who has really spent a good amount on tools this year as the woodworking has ramped up, my thought process with this purchase was to invest in tested and respected products. Based on reviews and YouTube University this is one of those pay for the good stuff so you’re not regretting it in a month and paying more out later.

Good product backed by AMAZING customer service
I habe had this product for a little over a year. It comes ready to use with 2 spare cutter wheels, just in case. Turns out those spare wheels were absolutely needed as I managed to break/chip mine fairly quickly (I am rough with my stuff). At the time my last wheel gave out I went looking for replacements, this was roughly six months prior to writing this. Clarke brothers, at the time, did not have a way to get just the replacement wheels (they do now, more on that) so I set outdoor trying wheels from various other brands/companies but never found one that fit 'correctly'. There are some that will get you by but they don't fit well. Finally giving up, I messaged Clarke brothers to plead with them to male replacement cutter wheels available. To my surprise, I was informed that replacement cutter wheels will be made available on amazon in the near future and was assured that replacement would be sent to me. I waited months for said wheels and they never arrived. Again I reached out to Clarke brothers. They assured me that the cutters would arrive within the next few weeks and that a logistics issue was causing the delay. Another few weeks with nothing. Then, a Clarke brothers rep reached out to me regarding the issue. I was informed that, due to the long delay in fulfilling my request, that I would receive another marking gauge with replacement wheels. So, in order for Clarke brothers to hold themselves to thier standards, I got a free marking gauge on top of the one I have already, just so they could make sure they kept thier promise of providing me with replacement cutter wheels. This is the kind of customer service that every company should have. As for the product itself, it is a simple elegant design. The weight feels good in the hand, making it's use comfortable. The cutters are sharp enough but, like most tool blades, could be improved with some additional honing. Tje anti roll head is also a great feature, not necessarily needed, but makes the product just a bit better. Since I now have a second marking gauge it will replace my first, much cheaper and poorly designed gauge (which is also a wheel gauge, if anyone wanted to know). I still intend on purchasing a micro adjust marking gauge, and was going back and forth between Clarke brothers and another brand. The customer service that Clarke brothers provided basically guaranteed my purchase so I will be making that soon.

UPDATED (originally off by a 16th at 5")
UPDATE: (Original review below.) After contacting the vendor via Amazon, they sent me a new one, completely free. It's definitely accurate (measured it with the micrometer just to be certain). So, great customer service for a great tool. My only gripe is the fact that you read the distance from the face of the wheel itself, and since the wheel has a small recess to accommodate the marking knife, it's hard to be 100% precise as to where the mark is to be read. Otherwise, a great buy, and I'm happy to update the review. ___________________________ ORIGINAL REVEIW: This tool feels solid. It looks great. Maybe that's why people are rating it so highly. But if you need accurate measurements, it's useless. By the time you get out to the 5 and 6 inch marks, they're off by at least 1/16th. Which is just ridiculous for a tool that has literally ONE job. The brass wheel isn't flush with the gauge either, so you're constantly guessing about where youre actually setting the wheel lock. I'd give it zero stars if I could. I'd give it five stars if the gauge was marked accurately. As it is, I have to set the actual depth with a carpenter's square and then set the lock. Just ignore the markings and use a different tool to lock it in...you'll be more accurate.

This is one of those tools that will help you with a straight line
This tool is probably one of the most unique tools that you will come across I had to shave off the backside of the bathroom door I put masking tape from one end to the other I did use a hand saw 8 in electric hand saw so the masking tape kept us off from scratching the back of the door but my straight line came from using this tool because I slid it down through and then peeled off the cut tape perfectly straight line because the door had never been cut or touched before it worked awesome

Works, but takes a bit of skill to get right
It works. However, not quite as super easy to use as I probably thought. I had thought something like this would be super simple, you just set the distance and do the mark, however it does slip reasonably easy and isn't super easy to hold well. So that lead to my first times using it not necessarily creating a nice, neat, accurate line. That's just a bit of a technique thing. There is a little bit of proper technique required to use it. But if done properly I think it does a good job. So just be warned it may take a bit of working with it to work out a good technique that will get good, even lines. It's not super simple and idiot proof. But if done right should give good accurate marks.

Works as described, happy with results.
Does as promised. I used this often for marking where I need to cut. Leaves a minimal mark, less obvious than pencil marks, etc.
