This is a good multi-function printer. I own a number of other Brother units, and they're workhorses. However, there are 2 things about this unit that you should know, each deducting 1 star from the 5 I would have otherwise given. 1) Although the printer supports duplex printing, the scanner does not. I am surprised and disappointed that Brother has taken to nickel-and-dimming their customers by creating models so similar that they tricked me when I purchased this. I would not have bought this model had I realized that duplex scanning was not supported. 2) The toner cartridges on this model contain a chip that authenticates with the printer when you power it up. Although Brother allows you to use 3rd party toner, they could always change this behavior anytime they feel like it. Other than that, the print quality is excellent, the print speed is fast, and the paper handling is excellent. The non-duplex scanning had steam coming out of my ears this morning when I realized that, and I will need to consider this the next time I purchase another MFC.

The printer arrived in as-new condition, but it came with no documentation and a generic toner cartridge that did not fit in the printer drum. I ordered a Brother-branded toner cartridge and it went in and is functioning just fine. I assumed a factory refurbished unit would come with a toner cartridge that fit. Amazon gave me a discount that I applied to the purchase of OEM toner.

Replaced my 19 year old MFC 7840W that served me so well for all those years with this unit. I thought it might be harder to set up than before based on some reviews but I thought it was super easy. I just plugged it in, selected my wifi/input the password, placed the toner cartridge and paper into the machine and it was ready to go. I also downloaded the Brother App just in case I wanted to scan something. I didn't sign up for the toner monitoring/replacement plan. I wouldn't have bought this unit if I had to use something like that like with some manufacturers. The printer shows up on my network fine. Prints look great and I just used the manual feed and that worked fine. There's videos online that show the whole setup process in the event you need it.

Wow! We bought the refurbished one and couldn't be happier! Saved us $100! It even came in a brand new brother box, straight from the manufacturer! Prints great, and is super fast, even does duplex. It also has a scan bed, which we use as a copy machine a lot. We actually have another brother color printer, but purchased this one to use primarily for the COPY capability since we do homeschooling. 5 Stars!!
