I take it you're using a microwave transformer? This will hold the current and give good high voltage insulation. Just watch yourself that an arc doesn't jump from the uninsulated ends to your ends. Those transformers will kill you in a heartbeat.

Q: would this be ok for a 1000w inverter?

16 Gauge wire is rated at 10 Amps so if you are running on 12v this would be 1000w/12v = 83.3 Amps. So you would be needing a cable capable of handling at least 100 Amps. This would be a 6 or 7 gauge cable ....lower the gauge the thicker the wire.

I've not got my voltage drop charts to hand but guesstimating16AWG at 12v should be good for up to 12-15A over a length of 1.5m (assuming you need the entire length) and depending on acceptable voltage drop.

Nice pliable wire for making low current connections

I made some test leads up wit it and then some cables to connect a low power supply. In both cases it worked perfectly and is nice and pliable. Recommended but not for high current flow.

I bought some of this years ago and went back to buy some more. Plenty of weight in the cable and it is nice and flexible. Not had any issues with it going hard due to time out in the sun, although to be fair I tend to take it in when I am not using it. Would definitely buy it again, and I did!
