Community - Season 1-4 [DVD]

Incredibly funny
My boyfriend and I laugh out loud, almost continuously, during every single episode. We're on season three and it still hasn't got weaker. The humour is feelgood, not 'dark' or snide; the underlying themes are intelligent and even touching at times. It is a very 'clever'comedy as it references popular tv and film references all the time through the character Abed - but you DON'T need to be a buff to get the jokes, believe me. And it never loses it's heart. The first episode (originally the pilot) is fine but if you're underwhelmed keep going as it gets stronger and stronger, and the characters get more and more likeable. So great to have some guaranteed laughs in a box.We were watching Parks and Recreation before this but it never really grabbed us and this blows it out of the water.Compared to a huge hit like Friends it is just so much more real and accessible - not a bunch of 'perfect' friends, more a rag bag and bobtail of oddballs and wannabe acheivers thrown together by circumstance. And Chevy Chase is hilarious!

Please be specific, I have Changnesia.
This is an incredibly funny show - it's beaten Modern Family/Friends out to become my favourite comedy show ever. The writing is razor sharp, layered and full of cultural references - I continually see new stuff on repeat viewings, and there's been many. Chevy Chase, Joel McHale and Jim Rash as the Dean are my personal favourites in seasons 1-4 but the rest of the cast (along with some very strong cameos/supporting roles) are fantastic. Look out for John Goodman in a hysterical cameo around season 3 or so - he's in top form.Honestly I did have to give it a few episodes at first, until it clicked, but I am so glad I persevered - this show has had me crying with laughter on a regular basis since. The recent final season was a fitting end with some of the wackiest episodes yet but these first few seasons are simply outstanding. What keeps it fresh is that the writers were clearly not afraid to be innovative (read: multiple timelines, inmates going to college via iPads mounted on segways, campus wide paintball fights). But, even when the shows follow a more 'regular' format, there's always a twist so it never feels routine. Add in the occasional 4th wall break and some refreshing self-awareness (often deftly displayed by Danny Pudi through the unique Abed Nadir character) and you've got a comedy show like no other.A word of warning if you take the plunge - nothing else comes close.

Abed is Batman
I bought this mere days before it came on to Netflix (dammit) but it is worth it for the extras which often amazing (Alison Brie bending over Jeff.... humana....)This is an amazing show and has quickly become one of my favourites of all time that will demand repeated viewings to catch all the jokes. As A Brit some of it goes over my head, but if you like your pop-culture refs thick and fast (in often bizarre ways) then Community is for you.The show was cancelled aftewr season 6 - but then picked up by Yahoo (I have no idea how you get hold of those episodes yet) for a final series because #sixseriesandamovie!!!!!(BTW - the movie is confirmed as happening!)

Excellent show and a surprisingly good box set...
I love Community. I think it is one of the best comedy shows current airing and you either agree with that or disagree but I also see that this show can be a bit like Marmite; you either love it or hate it so I would suggest that if you are an uninitiated comedy fan then you should watch a couple of early episodes of the show before deciding whether to buy this set.If you are already a Community fan then you don't need me to tell you anything other than the gag reels are all here and are all glorious and the only negative thing to say about the set is that the formatting on the spines of the individual season's are not uniform so if that kind of thing bothers you then brace yourself before unboxing.Happy watching.

Great fun, great value, lots of wonderfully surreal moments!
Purchased as a gift at Christmas time, the series is great fun and very high quality throughout. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys programs such as Arrested Development, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation, etc. I must admit I did find myself really caring about the characters too, and their relationships. The acting is great, and casting is brilliant too. The writing is clever and in many episodes truly novel and innovative (anyone who has seen the 'Dungeons and Dragons' episode will surely agree!). It's nice to have so many episodes that are slightly surreal!

For fans of smart comedy.
I know that objectivity in entertainment is almost impossible, but I believe that this is certainly one of the best comedies out there. It's not easy watching, or something that you throw on to be in the background. But sitting down and making an event out of watching this will certainly be extremely satisfying. Also comes with UV online viewing option, which is pretty great.

six seasons and a movie
i literally have not stopped watching this since i bought it. i didn't realise the Sony TV channel were editing (i just set a record on series link and it must have picked up pre-watershed ones) so it was delight to have new lines to see even in episodes i had seen. the special extras are all uniformly excellent. cannot recommend this enough, i am so happy they are getting a sixth series, now we just need the movie!

excellent
Community is one of the best American comedies of the last 5 years. The first 3 seasons are brilliant. The fourth, still funny but not quite up to par with the first 3. Still worth the watch though. However, getting the uv copies to work is proving quite a challenge, and to date unsuccessful. All of the three helpdesks for the three accounts you need to open to use the uv copies have proven very friendly, helpful and really do respond extremely quickly. Let's just say using uv copies isn't quite 'plug and play '.
