Field Roast, Sausages Smoked Apple Age Vegetarian, 12.95 Ounce

Delicious . You don’t have to be a vegetarian to appreciate these !

Vegans rejoice! Tastes pretty close to the real (meat-based) stuff but without the cholesterol. It’s soy-free, which will please some people, but is made with gluten, which will disappoint those who eschew gluten. The flavor and texture are pretty versatile when pan fried but the flavor falls short when stewing or steaming, as the sausage’s seasoning and taste simply diffuse into the liquid. The microwave is acceptable in a pinch. I prefer the texture of these sausages over the other vegan sausage brands I’ve tried, including Tofurkey. The texture is a bit crumbly, which mimics a real brat, whereas other brands can be like a dense slab of faux meat.

Nice flavor

They taste good, and if you slice and sauté then, the texture is good. Otherwise, they're kind of mushy. I've used them in Mac & cheese, pasta sauce, crackers and cheese, and on pizza. I will buy them again.

We were fine using this as a hotdog. Flavor was good. The best thing was that it didn't create a sticky mess in the pan that beyond meat sausages create. I also notice there are no weird ingredients, (unlike beyond meat which contains methylcellulose and calcium alginate casing). It did have a flavor that felt more like the kind of sausage people grill in a pan for breakfast. But I thought it was yummy as a hotdog, especially with ketchup, mustard, and saeurkreat. And the best thing is it was easy on my stomach, unlike real sausages.

We like this sausage, even though we aren’t vegan or vegetarian. I add fried onions and this sausage to our Mac and cheese. I fry onions and cabbage and add this, and some spices, to make a meal. I’ve also used the apple sage and the fennel Italian sausage together to make lasagna and spaghetti sauce.

These guys are a little salty, but really really good. Chop up a couple where you'd use sausage (keep in mind they are a bit salty) and they make a great meat replacement.

Unfortunately, I would give it a higher rating but as a strict vegan, I have noticed that I had live cultures in it so that’s why I am not getting this anymore, which is a shame because they were so good!
