Review: Dissapointing for Disappointing Reasons - Pros: (1) Toasts ok...not perfect but still "ok"...meets minimum expectations; (2) Crumb tray in front makes toaster easy to clean; (3) Wife thinks "it looks nice"; I agree. Cons: (1) Cost too high given the cons which follow; (2) Warranty application on-line is WAY too much to complete without a PhD in something (which I obviously don't have..."Patience", perhaps :-); (3) Toaster has a low, distracting "buzz" sound when operating; (4) Power cord wrap design on bottom of toaster is downright stupid (only 1 way around; not in the direction which would work best for us given what ends up at the back of the toaster); (5) Bagel/Defrost/Warm-up Buttons...at least on Black model..."camouflaged" in black print matching black buttons making them virtually impossible to read. Text should be readable without having to use a flashlight (which still presents a challenge); (6) Bagel/Defrost/Warm-up Buttons must be counterintuitively activated only after (not before) the bread is toasting; (7) The toaster's "Push Down Handle" is flimsy and feels like it will need continuing TLC; (8) Heat settings on control knob need to me made easier to read (more contrast and a bit larger print...they are readable, unlike the other control buttons, but could definitely be improved); (9) User Manual is "ok" but thin/low contrast type makes it hard to read without a good light...needs a "Font Transplant". In sum: I guess I'd have to say that I'm pretty disappointed given the price being asked. My best advice would NOT be to not purchase it but rather to understand what you're getting for the price that you're paying and to do your "homework" before making a final purchase decision. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of "Long, Wide-slot" toasters out there to be looking at and none of them are "perfect" so it's really more a matter of compromise than what I would want to have to be contending with. These folks have been in business, literally, for centuries and that alone makes things even more disappointing.

Superior Toasting
Once we figured out the settings, we are very satisfied with this toaster. Toasted bread has a crispy exterior but stays soft on the inside. The long slots don't comfortably fit 4 slices of the store breads that we purchase, but these long slots are very handy for toasting artisan breads or reheating half of a belgium waffle. The toasting quality is superior. The long and narrow desing fits well on my counter.

Best of the Best
I researched many toaster brands, from the low to high-end. I had a new KitchenAid toaster that was returned because while it looked great with our matching appliances, it didn't fit bread slices that were larger than the standard white Wonderbread. Our friends have Wolf toaster and said it's just "ok." Anyway, I gave this Zwilling a try for these reasons: 1) length - yes, while it's a larger size toaster it fits many various lengths of bread 2) width - fits bagels or larger hunks of specialty breads (olive) that one would cut themselves 3) matte black - no fingerprints and easily matches most kitchen decor/colors 4) owned by Henkel (didn't know this until I started researching this brand) when reading various "toaster" review articles and blogs 5) a good amount of options for toasting - number dial, reheat, bagel 6) reviews! So far this Zwilling has churned out the perfect toast, bagels and english muffins perfectly. It's super easy to clean the crumbs out with the removable tray. I tried many other toasters, and this is so far worth the money.

Very poorly designed controls.
I was disappointed with the position of the controls. I replaced a KitchenAid with this. The KitchenAid had the control knob and a LED readout positioned on the FRONT of the toaster making adjustments VERY easy and quick. This Zwilling has the control knob improperly placed on the end of the toaster near the bottom with almost impossible to read numders on it and no LED read out. So far it toasted OK (it should for the price) but if I had known what how inefficient the controls would be I would have thought twice. If easy visual and manual access to the control (right side) end of the toaster is limited for you I would recommend a different toaster. Update: my wife said "Just turn it around - duh!" And that gave better access to the control but is still very hard to see and use.
