desertcart.com: Detective Comics No. 38 April Special Replica Edition: Bill Finger: Books

Review: April 1940: This is the very first appearance of Robin (Dick Grayson) in any comic book - It didn't take long for the artists and authors to decide that Batman needed Robin and Bruce needed Dick. This was back in the period that a number of superheroes were gaining sidekicks. I guess they thought that sidekicks made the main characters more interesting. They certainly increased the sales of comic books, because the kids had someone to look up to. I know, in the 60's, I enjoyed stories with Robin better than stories without him. When Robin grew up and became Nightwing, it got boring, so I didn't read Nightwing as often. HOW MANY ROBINS HAVE THEIR BEEN IN THE COMIC BOOKS There have been almost as many Robins in the comic books as there have been actors playing Robin on the big screen. HINT: You might think that Burt Ward was the first Robin, but there were two Robins before Burt (who also was on TV). In the 1943 Columbia Serial, "Batman", 16-year-old Douglas Croft played Robin for 15 chapters (15 weeks). A few years later, 26-year-old Johnny Duncan played Robin in the 1949 Serial, "Batman and Robin" -- Johnny may have started the tradition of Robin actors (almost) always being adults, in their twenties, when they take on the Robin role. People do disagree about how many Robins there have been. If we look at Robins who have been part of the continuity for awhile, I believe there have been four. I will allow you to do your own research. I highly recommend this "First Robin" issue to you, if for no other reason, for it's historic value. It's a shame that electronic books have no resale value to speak of. John
Review: Outstanding. - Great condition (slightly bent), own a piece of comic book history. If your like me and don't have 44k to drop on an original the replica is a great option.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this is a great Batman comic
*by N***B on July 12, 2024*

I liked this book because it was the first appearance of my favorite Batman character Robin. The only thing I disliked was the extra comics, because I just really bought this book for Robin. I would recommend this book to somebody who’s studying comic history, likes reading Batman, or just looking for a good book to read.
