The wood needs to be put in an area that won't get wet, as it will swell - my recommendation would be to put on top of a baseboard. The felt backing is thick and provides great sound proofing. The overall thickness of the felt and wood slats is 5/8". It is not flimsy like a pole wrap, it is an actual slat wall. If you have to cut the wood, it is a little tricky, but cutting the felt is easy with an exacto knife. Pricing is fair considering the size of the panels - there were 2 panels in each pack. We used this on the back side of a kitchen island and it looks great! I'll add pictures once it's all finished out.
