Must read
the best book I have read this year so far. Those who want to be the best should read and follow what he has felt and gone through in the process to reach the top.

A multidisciplinary book
This book helped me understand how someone can excel at any discipline or study. It is a mirror into the life of a prodigy. It also made me understand some of the dirty tricks leading to some Championships. It also helped me learn that with discipline and hard work, one can beat even those favored by the unfair rules in some games or fields.

Engaging, but not widely applicable
The writer certainly has a thing for prose and the book was quite intense and captivating at points, especially the first half and the last chapters. However, what he shares is applicable mainly to competitive fields and might not be as much of a help in less competitive settings. It's certainly not obvious to me how to translate many of his teachings into my study of computers. Maybe I just need to give it a second read, but I'm not excited about that. And at times, the writer goes into minute detail about chess and Tai Chi that might leave the uninitiated confused or bored. So unless you're looking to excel in such fields, this might not be the book for you. However, if you're not particular about that then you might still enjoy the book as it contains the reflections of a world-class champion in chess and Tai Chi, a title reserved for the elite.
