Rhythmic and repetitive. My kids loved this as babies, toddlers and little kids, and I never got sick of reading it.

I would give this a million stars if I could!! I have had the original copy of the story since childhood (top of each image). My son loves this story. He asks to read it almost every night. Since Ive had the book for almost 20 years, it has been well loved & well used. It was literally falling apart. It was time to replace it. I found the story on Amazon & ordered a copy. I am SO thrilled at the quality. The pages have an added gloss to them, colors are so much more vibrant, & the "spooky words" have some added color to them as well & it makes it so much more fun! So many "remakes" from my childhood have been cheap & the companies have clearly cut corners to save money. Not this one! This book is so much better than the one from my childhood. We were so pleasantly surprised. Very delighted at the quality & the price!!! 😄

"The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything" is a Halloween favorite in my house. My daughter asks for us to read this book all the time. The premise is that a little old lady travels into the woods to gather supplies. On her way home, she comes across an assortment of things that try to scare her. This includes boots, pants, gloves, and pumpkin head. Each item has a fun interactive component, like clapping, wiggling, shaking, and saying boo. In the end, the parts come together as a scarecrow and scare the crows away. This is a great book for young kids. It has a fun art style, interactive parts, a Halloween theme, and shouldn't be scary for most kids. Highly recommended if you are looking for an enjoyable but not too spooky Halloween book.

I first ran into this book 18 years ago when I went to visit my grandson, then 4 or 5 year old, and took him shopping for something special. From birth, his Dad, my son, had been reading his books to his son, and my grandson had some pretty advanced book interests. I bought him his first copy of the Tales of Narnia, but time on that visit didn't give me the opportunity to start the stories, so for that night we bought a simple child's book, THE LITTLE OLD LADY WHO WAS NOT AFRAID OF ANYTHING, that I knew nothing about. That night I must have read that book 15 times with all the motions and sounds we could dream up. The book is similar to OLD McDONALD'S FARM where you make the noises and repeat each animal over and over again. Even as he was falling asleep, my grandson was grinning and fluttering his hands and wiggling his toes to the story. Later, using my own copy of the 1st of the Narnia books, I'd call and read him a chapter. A couple of years later he collected several copies of those books and the video and watched and read them before the second grade. Just recently, I found the authors name and the book and gave the new copy to him for Christmas. He's 22 and loved it. So I bought more to give as presents for other children.

My 3 year old loved this book from daycare. He basically had it memorized. He is thrilled to have his own copy. The story is cute and had a surprise ending. We like it!

Love having this book in my Halloween-book collection! I used to have this as a classroom book for my 2nd through 4th graders, but gave it away when I retired from teaching. I recently bought it again because I remember liking it and wished I hadn't given it away. Illustrations are intricate and delightful. There is suspense in this book that would appeal to grades 2 to at least 4th grade. At the upper grade level, a parent/teacher could use this book as a writing assignment with the prompt, "What is the main idea?" or "What can one learn from this story?" In my opinion, this is a good lesson about problem solving. There are one and two-syllable words for the most part as well as dialogue in quotation marks, so this book can teach 3rd through 6th graders about dialogue. For the younger grades, verbs can be emphasized such as "clomp," "wiggle," "shake," " clap" and "nod." So many ways to use this book as a teacher or home-school parent. If reading this book to a child, I'd recommend for ages 4 to 8 or 9.

A brave little old lady, walking home through the woods, is confronted by two shoes. She informs the shoes that they don't scare her and continues on, with the shoes following behind. When she meets up with pants, a shirt, gloves and a hat, and, finally, with a pumpkin head, she repeats herself, but she does walk a bit faster after each meeting. Closing the door at home behind her doesn't end things, as the set of clothes comes knocking. The clothing, particularly the pumpkin head, are very sad that they're unable to frighten the lady, but she has a wonderful idea that gets everyone's approval. This isn't, exactly, a Halloween book. The carved pumpkin head gives it that appearance, and the fact that it's a scary, tense, story, adds to that impression, but more than Halloween, this is an AUTUMN book. It is perfect for those days when the sun sets early and there's a little hint of coming frost in the air - as long as your young reader isn't easily scared! While the idea of being followed around by clothes is mildly amusing to me, as an adult, it'll be your call for your kid, whether or not he/she is likely to enjoy a little scare. The ending, good for a laugh, takes the sting out of the scary lead-up, if knowing that helps you decide. The text is very good. The following that the little old lady accumulates grows and becomes more ominous and the text conveys that very well, building the tension as the reader roots for the little old lady to escape the menacing laundry pile behind her. The illustrations, set in boxes on each page, are smaller - sometimes much smaller - than they needed to be, or even should have been. This is a perfect book for full page and two-page spreads overflowing with detail. For that type of imagery, see Halloween Night instead. The illustrations are my only complaint, however. This is a really good, slightly scary story for young and beginning readers who will probably prefer having a comforting adult do the reading - it is four solid stars good, it's just not five wow stars great. - AnnaLovesBooks

This is a great October read for kids 2 and up! An out loud read is a must. No witches or monsters. Love it. Purchased for a 2+ grandchild by a retired kindergarten teacher.

I have used The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything over and over in primary music lessons, and the kids loved it every single time. The repeated parts are perfect for adding percussion: I gave different groups shakers, xylophones, spoons, jingle bells, drums, and whatever else I had available, then let them join in when their part of the story came up. It builds as it goes, a little like There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, but without the same sing-song rhythm. By the end, everyone is listening for their cue and very invested in making sure the shoes, pants, gloves, and other sound effects get their moment. We repeated the same lesson with the same book several times because the kids kept asking to do it again. Highly recommended for an easy, fun Halloween music lesson, or just a lively read-aloud for Kindergarten to Grade 3.

Eine alte Dame begegnet auf ihrem Rundgang durch den Wald allerhand lebendigen Kleidungsstücken und einem Kürbiskopf. Diese Dinge erschrecken sie doch etwas und sie eilt nach hause. Dort angekommen, klopft es jedoch, da ihr alle gefolgt sind. Als die Dame die Besucher nicht wirklich willkommen heißt, werden diese traurig. Da hat die Dame eine Idee- am Ende sieht man alle Dinge in Form einer Vogelscheuche in ihrem Garten. Ich verwende das Buch im Englischunterricht der Grundschule bei der Einheit Kleidung.

Ce livre est très sympa pour se mettre dans l'ambiance d'halloween mais aussi pour vaincre ses peurs grâce au personnage incarné par la veille femme qui n'a peur de rien. Un livre qui se lit facilement et en rythme des sons des bruits (chaussures, T shirt, etc) de manière amusante. Ça plaît beaucoup aux enfants. Et la fin est très surprenante! Belle surprise. Livre en anglais plein d'humour.
