全編を通じて，あたかも一人の著者が書いているかのように一貫した，噛んで含めるような言い回しで，読者の理解を助ける解説が，読んでいて心地よい．　第14版では，肥満，代謝，心血管疾患，アルツハイマー，その他の変性疾患などの内容が追加されたというが，生理学という領域の性格上，大きな変化はなく，使用されている図表は99％前編と同じものが再使用されている．　Starlingの式の認識が改まっていない点や，人工呼吸管理として未だに鉄の肺を論じている旧さ,inklingのe-book上でdot付き文字に関係する誤植が多数存在する点などに不満は残るが，参考文献は，学生が無料で入手できる文献を主体に最新のものが添えられている点や，読者の理解を助ける容易な表現など，万人に自信を持って薦められる，一生ものの教科書である．
