What is the difference between the 501 and 551 versions of this sealant?

Both are non-sag, but 501 is for horizontal surfaces and 551 is for vertical surfaces. Not sure what the difference is. The last letter indicates the color. (W=white)

can this caulk tube of dico r be reseal ed after opening, to be used at a later date or will it just dry out.?

I have had tubes covered for many months and they don't dry out. I have found this at local hardware stores as well.
