PHILIP GLASS: THE PIANO COLLECTION
T**A
Amazing collection.
What a wonderful collection. My son, who is learning to play the piano, asked for this music. I hadn't realized before how some qualities of minimalist music can lend itself well to intermediate- emerging advanced musicians. Of course there are many passages in the collection that are advanced, but the collection provides a segue into advanced skill offering such simplistic, yet hypnotically beautiful passages that bring the intermediate player satisfaction and confidence. You will enjoy this collection.

A fine collection of Glass' piano works
I finally decided to spend the 20+ dollars on a piano book. I usually I am overly thrifty, so a book that is more than 20 dollars it has better be useful and interesting. The piano music of Philip Glass is the height on Minimalism. It is a fascinating study and presents a totally different type of music than most any other piano genre. I have enjoyed the "Metamorphosis" series the most, but I am planning on looking at more of the selections in the book. I would recommend this book to any person wishing to know more about the music of Philip Glass and Minimalism, it is a fine collection indeed.

My review of "Philip Glass: The Piano Collection"
I'll say up front that Philip Glass is one of my favorite modern composers, so I was very excited to be able to play pieces that I've listened many times already. The book definitely didn't disappoint in that regard. However, after playing out of it for a while and pressing the spine to keep it open, the glue that holds it together started to come loose and some pages in the middle have become loose as well. It's a shame that the book wasn't of better quality, but it still has brought a lot of enjoyment.

Returning "The Piano Collection," keeping "Solo Piano"
I found no listing of contents of the two Philip Glass piano books I found here, saw each on the other's "customers also bought" list, and took a chance. "The Piano Collection" is going back to Amazon:About one-third of this book is the five-part "Metamorphosis," which is also in the "Solo Piano" collection. There are two other Glass works for piano, "Modern Love Waltz" and the opening piece from "Glassworks." The rest are ensemble pieces and excerpts, arranged for piano by various arrangers: selections from the film "The Hours" and a "trilogy sonata" of excerpts from "Einstein on the Beach," "Satyagraha," and "Akhnaten."I'll list the contents of the "Solo Piano" book in my review of that collection.

Great Book for experienced student pianists
This is a beautiful collection of some of Philip glass's most complicated pieces to play on piano. It has enough music in it to keep you occupied if you are a student pianist and it has a genre of quick and soft pieces. The book itself is easy to follow.

Music is wonderful, but if you clip it open so that you can play, the bindings fall apart. I have a lovely stack of paper now rather than a book.

Many are arranged for piano.
The details did not make it clear that these are not necessarily pieces written for the piano. Many are arranged for piano.

Lovely collection
I really bought this for Openings from Glassworks, but am very much enjoying the other content, particularly the music from The Hours. Easy to read large print too.

great, but not perfect
A very good production. Clear and easy to read notes. I have to hold back one star because of at least one print error and also lack of information on the dynamic of the music (crescendo, pedals etc). But it's still a jewel.

Excellent service, clear print
The book arrived in 2 days, when we selected Super Saver Delivery, so came earlier than expected, which was great service! The piano book itself has clear print, and is organised well into 5 sections: "The Hour", Metamorphosis, Trilogy Sonata for Piano, Love Waltz, and Opening Piece from "Glassworks". The sheet music is large and easy to read, but would be nice if it included information about the pedal. All in all, a great product!
