They have a great backing. I'm not sure on a Backpack but, definitely great for walls.

Are these waterproof? I was planning to put them on a pair of kids rental skis.

Not sure. They’re plastic but they might slide off. I’ve placed the decals on my daughter’s wall and no problems.
