Great Value. My main resource.
I recently took the S7 and passed with an 80. Not great, but considering the time put into studying, I'll take it. My primary study manual was this Text, Pass the 7. I also bought the supplemental pass the 7 tests online and found a few other cheap practice tests elsewhere. The boredom associated with trying to ingest one of the extremely long and expensive texts did not appeal to me. (this book is enjoyable to read) While I did find that there were some things on the series 7 that I did not find in this text, for the most part everything was there. Just be thorough in your reading.. and be able to explain and write down concepts. Explain and write down, explain and write down. I could have done more of that, instead of assuming I would remember things when I looked them up, because I certainly forgot some stuff during the s7 that I shouldn't have.My recommendation to people who have little experience with the industry, but are looking to learn on their own, is to buy a copy of this text. I found that I learned the material best by doing a solid reading of the entire book. Then, I took a couple of practice tests. After which, I reread this book in a faster fashion. Instead of going out and spending a ton, I'd look to buy a few extra practice exams from other sources. AND, while doing all of the practice tests, take notes in regards to the concepts and terms that you don't know or understand. Google searches, wikipedia, and investopedia provided ample information about terms and concepts. One thing I didn't do enough of, but would recommend, is to explore the different websites which Walker refers to. (e.g. FINRA's, SIPC's, etc)Good luck

Great Book
Hi all,I bought this book and also the "For Dummies" book. And my company had me sign up for classes through STC. I should note that first of all I am a lawyer, not a securities trader. (I had to take the series 7 in order to be a supervising principal of our firm.) I took the series 7 exam today for the first time and passed with a 90.Here are my thoughts: the Pass the 7 Book is great in that it explains tricky concepts in an easy to understand way. However, I found the practice exams that I took from STC much more helpful to get me prepared for the test. I was very nervous for the exam because I am not from a finance background (history major) and have no direct experience with securities trading (apart from certain ancillary legal/regulatory issues). There was very little "law" on the test, and so I had to to study a lot. I took about 10 practice exams and made my own flash cards online using this very cool free website that I found called Study Blue [...].All in all, I really just recommend taking as many practice tests as possible. Reading the book is not enough to ensure that you know the material. While I was passing most of my practice exams in the mid-70s range, I found the actual exam to be much easier than the STC practice exams.Best of luck to everyone!

600 Pages Funny, Well Written and Thorough
This guide is easier to read than most books on this subject. Yes, I would buy it again. The only problem is that it takes tons of time to go through as it is 600 pages of intense information. But the Series 7 is a very challenging exam without a stellar pass rate. I think if you go through this book and know it inside and out, you have a good chance of passing it. I would plan on a few months. The product knowledge in this book is good for Series 7, 24 and Continuing Education Regulatory Element Programs 2-201 and 2-101. However, you should additionally buy something specific to Series 24 and 2-201. Why both for the series 24, because they expect you to remember all of the product knowledge in order to supervise it.I bought this book for the 2-201 regulatory requirement, but did not finish this book as I ran out of time and switched to a shorter Series 24 guide. However, for the areas I was weak in, I could look them up in this book. I passed! This book can be a good reference as the index in the back is very extensive to find what you are looking for. When you find the item, it is very thoroughly explained with some humor.

In retrospect I would not have bought this for myself
I bought it because my colleagues told me that it was an easier read than some of the more formal training materials for the Series 7 course, and that it explains things in layman's terms. Having read this book, I agree. So, for someone unfamiliar with the material, or who has read other material and didn't understand it, perhaps this is a good buy.The exam itself, however, is not written in layman's terms. This book on its own would not have prepared me for the terminology required on the exam, nor did it provide the level of detail required to pass the exam. I would not recommend this at all to somebody who copes fine, as I did, with more formal training materials (such as those from STC Interactive). You're going to have to read those more details materials, anyway, to feel ready to pass the exam.

I passed
I passed the 7 with a score of 75... I used this book for the entire thing. They only part that was a little sketchy was the options (straddles, Spreads) portion. If I had studied like I should have I would have easily made an 80-85. Good book and explains things very well. Makes you understand the concept in order to figure out the questions. I would suggest you pay Kaplan for some practice tests but over all a very good book!

Excellent Textbook
I'm a hardcopy text book kind of gal. I need physical books to help me study. It's the only way I feel like I'm learning something. This book gives great detail and explanation for each term. There are also a couple of random practice questions. I wouldn't rely solely on this, (though, honestly, I probably could pass with only this book) but it's definitely a great supplement for studying for the Series 7.

Good Book
It is a good book that covers the Series 7 in plain english. He repeats himself a few time throughout the book but it serves as a refresher since there is so much material. It is a very for primer or refresher for the Series 7.
