This phone has consistently impressed me at every turn. Coming from a Samsung Galaxy budget series that was quite long in the tooth, this runs much faster and has a surprisingly premium quality feel. The screen has this unique matte finish that I've never seen on a phone and is more like an old school tablet or e-reader. I set the slider to default to Max Ink mode, and I engage it while I'm at work. Watching YouTube videos on my break in battery-squeezing black and white is a cozy nostalgic experience! Switching between standard and Max Ink mode, I can easily get two days of battery life out of this phone without any charging anxiety. Apps have no compatibility issues. The Nxtpaper functions are fairly easy to adjust. Screen brightness is highly adaptive and works well in all light conditions. Camera is very good, probably the best in the price range. Excellent value at under $200 on sale. Only downsides are no wireless charging, somewhat limited charging speed and lack of available third party accessories compared to Apple and Samsung devices. Still a phenomenal bargain.

Do not purchase this product unless you want to always have to watch it reset it. The light will randomly stay on, despite having screen time out settings set. It performs well other than that. However, I strongly suggest purchasing a different product unless you don't mind having to constantly check it to see the screen has turned off, so you don't run out of battery life despite having left your home fully charged. It is completely random, works for multiple days without issues, them, the issue will occur three to four days, straight, despite restarts. It is not made for someone who isn't attached to their phone constantly. It' will be great for those who every few minutes are on your device as you will be able to catch the device with the screen on and can turn it off. As long as you don't mind monitoring your phone constantly, it's a good product. If you are like me, and am not attached to it and have a life, I don't suggest purchasing it. You will be disappointed when you're out somewhere thinking you have a full battery, only to discover when you do need to use it, the light never cut off and had drained your battery leaving you with a few percent battery life, despite having a full battery an hour ago.

Great value and I love the matte screen. Good battery life.At first I was disappointed withe the charging speed, but that was easily fixed with a USB-C to USB-C cable and 30 watt charging block. Everything is easy to use and the screen wasn't bad in sunlight when I increased the brightness of the screen.I find it to perform better than similarly priced Motorollas or Samsung.If you want a matte screen or read a lot on your phone, this is the phone for you.I only play chess and the occasional casual game. It works great for that.Definitely the best bang for your buck out of the mid tier phones out there today.

I'm a week away from 45 years old. Until about 18 months ago, I had never broken, or even damaged a phone. Since then, I have lost so many phones. For a long while, I was simply buying refurbished versions of the same phone. I took a gamble on this phone. $250 with $25 'coupon'. I was ultra skeptical of a new phone at such a low price. I've now had it for over a full day, could not be more shocked at how good a phone it is, regardless of its price point. I'm a Samsung person, not an apple person. But has done everything I need it to do, YouTube, light gaming, etc., at the same performance as a Samsung s24 ultra. Lastly, the 'kindle' display functionality should not be underestimated. Even in normal mode, the display is much easier on my eyes. I very highly recommend. Of course, with a disclaimer of it only having been 24+ hours.Update: coating on the screen is very easily damaged. enormous struggles connecting to my wifi. equal struggles using mobile network. more often than not, fails to load full webpages as a result of the above. I'm not entirely dissatisfied, simply very disappointed. it is not a replacement for even a base smartphone. I would rate it much lower if not for the price.

my old phone was a TCL, i didnt have issues with it, so i bought this one.i love the screen, really. it feels nice.everything else is the most frustrating thing ive ever had to deal with on a phone.the keyboard constantly double taps letters. it doesnt matter how many times i reset it, clear the cache, clear everything about it or change the settings. it just double taps. i use the phone for work, so i have to type constantly and having to backspace like 4 times every time i want to send a message gets frustrating after two months of dealing with it.the bluetooth drops constantly. i can connect it to my car and as soon as i hit play on some music, it drops it. if my app closes for whatever reason and i go back into it, it drops it. its a constant fight for 5-10 minutes just to get it to hold a connection every time i go to drive. i work 45 minutes away. the last thing i want is more frustration of sitting in the parking lot for 10 minutes while i fight my phone to just let me hear my music.then have it drop 10 minutes into my drive anyway. ive reset it multiple times through settings. my old TCL didnt have this issue, and neither does any other phone. itll do the same thing with earbuds.i have to turn it into airplane mode several times before it finally connects, or restart the phone altogether. again. and again. and again.i kept thinking maybe its an update issue.. it cant be. its been two months and several updates and several resets and clears and even a factory reset. nothing fixes it.it drops tower connection too. suddenly im just not on the internet anymore. time for another airplane mode. time for another restart.i called TCL. everything they told me, i already tried. i tried it again too, just to see. then i was told the only thing left is to send it in the mail for a warranty.i use this phone for work. i have to talk to customers and keep track of parts. i cant be out of a phone for two weeks or more. nor do i have the money to even send it. and i certainly dont have the money for a new phone...i feel like im just stuck with this frustrating and maybe even defective phone because i cant afford any other option right now. and ive only had this phone for almost 2 months as of writing thisi just want it to work...

I've been using it since December 20th until today, January 13th, 2026. It's much better than I expected. It's not slow at all, at least for my usage, and I come from an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Its screen is beautiful, and finally, my eyes don't burn nor do I get headaches or nausea from the iPhone's PWM. I thought I would have to buy a separate digital camera, but its camera surprised me greatly. It's not better than the iPhone's, but surprisingly it's not that far behind, especially considering that one cost me $1200 and the other didn't even reach $200 since I bought it on sale. I also find it to be a beautiful phone and I truly hope TCL does well with this type of phone, since not many companies think about the visual health of people with myopia or astigmatism, who after using their phone for a while feel dryness in the eyes, headaches, neck pain, etc., because of PWM. I added some photos taken with this magnificent phone. I will sell my iPhone and I’m definitely staying with this one. I don’t miss anything from the iPhone; everything works as it should. Note: I don’t play any heavy games on any phone, I just watch YouTube, Netflix, read, use social media, banking, etc.

LOVE this phone! I was stuck in between going to and from an iPhone 13 pro max and a flip phone. I wanted to decrease my screen time and I think I've found the perfect balance.First off, the screen: gimmick or not, this Nxtpaper technology is great - I don't have any glare on the screen when I go outside and there's something different between this and just the monochrome setting on my iPhone. I've noticed less eye fatigue and have been able to read for long periods of time on this phone than I was able to on my iPhone or iPad.My specific use has the phone on MAX INK mode for the majority of the time and I'm finding myself charging this every couple days. I love that I don't get any notifications while in Max ink mode, but if I still need to check my Ring camera, I can do so without any of the distractions. Yes, you can configure your current smart phone to get rid of any notifications. Yes, you can delete any and all mindless apps on your normal smartphone. But being able to change the phone into a dumbphone with a switch of the button is so much easier.For $200, this phone is fantastic without breaking the bank and is a great value for what you're paying.Yes, the screen's colors are muted and you don't get the same color depth as you would, however, that's exactly what I'm looking for. It handles games like Stardew Valley well and other similar styled Android games.As for durability, I haven't dropped it yet but, with no screen protector, being chucked into my purse, it's doing really well. No scratches on the screen yet.Overall, fantastic phone for what I'm using it for.

Coming from high-end Sony, Samsung, LG, and HTC. I was looking for a $200-ish phone to replace a Sony with a dying fingerprint sensor and wanted to try something with a gimmick that I thought could justify taking a hit on processing power.Boy oh boy does this thing deliver on that front. The matte display is GREAT. It is so easy on the eyes, and it is last-gen (3rd); the new higher-end model that the US is still waiting for has a 4th gen display that is purported to be even better. But this is great! Combined with the faux e-ink modes, it is easy to read outside and I can stare at it at night without being kept awake. It has totally solved that issue for me. I also find it easier to read on; I'm pretty nearsighted.Speaking of the e-ink modes, they are very convincing; I use them constantly. The color paper mode makes YouTube videos look...actually very cool. It's just a different look that is easier to stare at, while the default color is punchy and vibrant with the 'enhanced color mode' that is built into the UI. Not the -brightest- screen in the world, but the unique qualities of the screen make it so it doesn't need to be. The display is made in-house by TCL, and the phone almost feels like a technology demonstrator, which is very cool as someone who appreciates something unique.The UI is good. Not obtrusive, it is really just there to facilitate the e-ink functions and some AI functions I was able to easily disable. From what I have read/heard, the AI functions are quite good, but I don't really care.Being a matte display, touch is a joy. It -feels- very nice to use, is super responsive, and leaves little to no fingerprints. I have never had to clean my screen.Processing power is adequate, but not flagship. Works fine for 2D games and browsing; general use is still snappy. Scrolling through image-dense Amazon listings is a little choppy, but whatever. Phone does not heat up at all, under any workload I've given it, granted I have not tried any high-end gaming on it and don't expect it to perform well on that front.BUT, what this weak processor does help with is battery. I end the day with 50-60% battery remaining, and on days where I don't use my phone much I have seen upwards of 85%. It is stellar compared to what I am used to, and is awesome for a $200-ish device (on sale).Cameras I put at the utility level. I don't care, as I am usually carrying around a camera more capable than what is on a phone anyway. The 50MP main camera is -good enough-, while the 5MP ultrawide is useless as one would guess. The default camera app does not output RAW, and 3rd party apps are not able to shoot at 50MP while outputting RAW. TCL, fix this! There is no technical reason to have the main camera app not output a native 50MP RAW file. It does have utility for people that actually benefit from using that mode! There aren't many of us, as 50MP on a phone camera is, honestly, dumb, but some of us do like to squeeze out ever mililitre of performance. Yes, it is a question of if you can, should you, but then again, if you can, why not? Just put a warning pop-up saying that it will take up a lot of phone space with no benefit or something.It DOES support external storage (microSD), has a headphone jack, sadly only USB 2.0 for data transfer. Wi-Fi is only Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), but that has been fine for what this phone is for - anything but high-end gaming. Wi-Fi connects well, the range is very good; kind of too good. It stays connected to my home Wi-Fi longer than I would like when I leave the house. I do wish I could set it to cut out upon the signal weakening to a certain point.Case compatibility; I reviewed the case I put on it. For such a niche phone, it has decent case options. I don't think it is needed for durability, but for ergonomics. The phone has the same problem every other slab has, in that it is hard to hold and type on without a case and Pop-Socket.Conclusion:If you are in the market for a cheap phone, I think it is worth giving up the processing power of the 60 XE's main competitor, the Nord N30, for the sake of the unique display. This display is, honestly, better for more people in day-to-day use.If you care about cameras and game performance: Nord N30 or Nothing CMF.Everyone else: This.
