On a magical, faraway island,Where raging rivers flowed,Giant, jagged mountains,Loomed over fjords below. As the animals prepare for their annual talent show, Manu learns about the greatest talent of all. An uplifting tale reminding us of the difference we can make if we all spread a little kindness. Review: Sweet story about kindness - Lovely little story, set amongst New Zealand animals, with an underlying message about being kind. Review: An endearing book with a valuable message - I gave this book to a little boy who had just had a baby brother. He loves animals and loves to be read to. The main character is very endearing and the message of the value of kindness to others shines through. The illustrations are delightful. Thoroughly recommend.

Printed backwards - heard nothing from customer services
This is such a beautiful story so we bought it as a gift for another child. This version sent has been printed backwards and isnโt readable or fixable. Iโve asked customer services for a replacement and weeks later Iโve still not heard anything. So I highly recommend the book but not from here.

A wonderful story about being kind and helping others
What a sweet story for a young child. This book was recommended by a book club member who started her own "children's book club" to correlate with the adult book club she is in. The basic premise of the book club, beyond encouraging a love of reading and good books, is to read age appropriate books that take place in different parts of the world, so children expand their horizons beyond the small corner of the world they live in. This particular book takes place in New Zealand, and is about a kiwi bird named Manu, who hopes to attend the annual animal talent show contest that is taking place later that day. He is curious as to which animal act might win the grand prize, as he knew there were to be many talented animals participating in the contest this year. So the day of the big event, he starts out early, walking along the path to where the contest is to be held as he wants to make sure he finds a good seat to watch the show. On his way however, he hears what sounds like animals in distress several different times. Each time, Manu takes a detour to find out what is wrong and help, before continuing on his way to the talent show. Each animal Manu stopped to help turned out to be a contestant in the show. Manu manages to get to the show before it begins and is amazed at all the talent he gets to see that night. He can't imagine how the judges could ever decide upon a winner as every performance was so good, and he anxiously awaits the announcement. Can you guess who won the award that night? This book is all written in rhyme, so it has a nice cadence and flow to it when reading it aloud. It also has great illustrations. Finally, it has a great moral to the story. I am guessing the story is perfect for ages 2-6 years. I only wish I could have found this book someplace in a hardcover version, as it is a keeper.

Sweet rhyming story, with a great ending
This is a really sweet story of a kiwi bird who is very helpful. He doesn't realize how much his helpful character is in itself a gift, until the very end. My 8-year old is obsessed with kiwis right now, and he loves the story. I think younger kids would really enjoy it too.
