Painfully Hilarious
I listen to Sir Angelini's show every once in a while on my drive home. The guy is hilarious, point blank. Early on after researching him, finding out he was the same guy from the Jenny Jones show, from Pontiac Michigan, and caucasian, I was dumbfounded. Not because he was a throwback semi-celebrity, from a nearby area and white, but he didn't fit the image I had in my head. While listening to Sirius one day, I heard his commercial that he had written a book and that a show was being made about him on HBO. I immediately jumped on amazon, ordered the book and this is by far the fastest book I've ever read. I know my wife was tired of me stopping her from her day by me reading her entire chapters at a time.I heard Jude's distinctive voice throughout the book, which made it much more vivid. After reading the book, and knowing what he has going on in outside activities, my desire for the All Out Show to go to a 90% talk format is a pipe dream. Jude is off to bigger and better stuff, as long as he allows it without blowing up his spot. I do think this is where Jude stands above some of his peers, he has a desire to move forward, and doesn't seem afraid of success.Back to the book... if you enjoy raunchy humor, vivid storytelling and cringe inducing situations, you're doing yourself a disservice if you haven't read this book. And Jude, whenever you're back in MI, come up to Flinttown and we'll tear up LLT & Cloud Nine.

Not your average novel
A funny, and oftentimes, even sad view into the life of Jude Angelini, this book gives us insight into a world some of us may not otherwise see or know about. The author writes in a way that allows you to feel as though he's speaking directly to you, giving you his testimony, sharing his honest, raw, brutal view of the world, and opening up in a way that many authors don't for fear of how the world would judge them.In his follow up Hummingbird, he continues with that raw emotional appeal, maybe even on a deeper level. His gut wrenching, but often humorous struggles with love and life, give us a glimpse into the mind of a man who struggles with self acceptance, yet continues to strive for more. The book touches on themes of substance abuse, sex, relationships, breakups, but twists them into humorous short stories that are palatable, heart wrenching, and hilarious. If you're going to read this book, follow up with Hummingbird. Jude's writing style reminds me of a more vulgar Frank McCourt. His ability to connect to the reader using writing that is not full of flowery words, but rather fraught with meaning despite that, is uncanny. Neither book is a disappointment, but rather can't be put down. I read Hummingbird in one day and Hyena in 2 days. Believe the hype.

Relatable modern autobiography
After listening to Jude Angelini's SiriusXM show for a few months, I was drawn to read his books, Hummingbird and this book, Hyena. I wasn't sure what to expect, but from the very beginning I knew his writing and narrative style is right up my l literary alley. Written as a collection of essays, each chapter can be read as a standalone short story, but collectively tell the real, raw and at times, grimy, story of growing up in poverty, surrounded by divorce, drugs, and sex.Jude Angelini's writing is profound in unexpected ways, descriptive almost to the point of making the reader uncomfortable, and had many moments of eye rolling laughter that sucked me in from the get, often evoking memories and feelings of my own childhood growing up in the 80's.I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading relatable memoirs written by modern authors.

Gives Bukowski A Run For His Money
I missed out on Jude's famous blog posts so when I heard he was writing a book instead, I purchased this in no time. I was expecting equal parts sincere, weird, funny & disgusting. Boy, I was in for a treat! The man has lived a crazy life and he hasn't even hit 40 yet. How he completed this book with all the outlandish stories and absurdest observations is pretty impressive for a first time author. The book is well written and honest, strung together very loosely in a narrative. I liked how he allowed the reader to enter a part of the authors life that most people would choose to hide, not embrace. Jude reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson in his prime and reading this totally confirms that. He keeps it all the way real. ALWAYS. Also, he may be a lot of things (even though I'm kind of a feminist and agree with about 50% of what he says) but he's a smart guy and a very illustrious writer. The only downside of this book is that it eventually ends. Buy buy buy.

Rude Jude raw, don't read it if you like being lied to
Jude Angelini writes like he is sitting across from you in the booth of a greasy diner after a night of hard partying and decides to tell you some of his most personal stories. His stories will have you dropping your fork and pushing the plate away so you can listen intently, only pausing to ask for more coffee. He will have you laughing, shocked, appalled and even concerned at times hoping his lifestyle doesn't take a toll on him too soon and wishing he could find that woman in his life to soften his rough edges just a bit. He is brutally honest, intelligent and entertaining. Hyena is definitely satisfying but it will leave you hungry for more just like Jude himself would in that diner. I did find myself wishing it were an audio book because if you listen to his show on Shade45 you know he has the best voice in radio. This book is an easy read and well worth it.

Honest, dark, funny, sad
I can't profess to having listened to Rude Jude on the radio; I found this book via James Altucher, who recommended it on one of his podcasts. I'll now be seeking out his shows. Hyena is written in an approachable, digestible style with short chapters which can be read in minutes. The content can be difficult - it does get somewhat graphical - but there is an underlying honesty in Angelini's writing which makes Hyena less gratuitous, more observational and not just in terms of the author's background but of society in general. There is humour and sadness in equal measure. It won't be for everyone but, for many readers, Hyena should be an urgent read.

Razor sharp and unashamedly honest autobiography.
Not for the faint of heart. There’s some actual jaw dropping reveals in this book.

Really enjoyed this book by Mr
Really enjoyed this book by Mr. Angelini. Am telling all my friends about it. First heard of Rude Jude on a Howard Stern interview, in which Jude was very, very funny. Sad about how poor he grew up and his struggles with drug addiction and trying to find "the one." And the US health care system sounds terrible, especially for those in Jude's predicament! Hope you take care of yourself, Jude! You have the gift of the gab and your writing style is a breath of fresh air.
