Gorgeous edition! and of course, an amazing start to a dystopian type fantasy tale. I think this series appeals equally to women and men. Great worldbuilding and a nice comradery with supporting cast and strong relationships/found family situation develops later in the book. Definitely takes you through all the emotions with plenty of action and political plotting. Darrow is a very strong, relatable main character. Determined, but not dark. Yes, there is romance in this series, but it is slow to build and is not the center of the story.

This is my favourite book that I own. The details and the overall beauty of this book and slip cover are incredible. I have a growing collection of books and try to get special editions when available. This is hands down my favourite. The actual story is incredible. I’ve been a person who primarily reads fantasy with a dash of Romantasy when the source material interests me. Never been the biggest fan of sci-fi, not because I’m adverse but I had yet to find one to enthrall me. Enter Red rising. I don’t want to spoil anything but I’m currently reading book 5 of 7 (book 7 red god is hopefully coming out 2026). This book was the gate way drug I didn’t know I needed. Heavy on the school vibes this book leans YA-ish but set you up for a series that quickly becomes so much larger and full blown space opera. The hype around this book an series are 100% warranted.
