Best advice to those that struggle make sure you register the product and link up to a forum. Also if your doing the research the forums r great.As for the review the archos 5 is sleek and looks stylish and with its 500 gb of store (eat your heart out apple!!) The andriod market is forever growing and has lots to offer. I bought a dvr station and use it to put films and tv programs on (sky or cable), the screen size is bigger than the i pod touch and the sound quality is good. I have over 100gb of music so it holds that no probs and syncs with windows media player or you can drag and drop. Its easy to put ur pics and any other info on. Its so easy to glide around the programs and widgets.Im yet to link it as a sat nav as my phone is pretty good for that.The downfalls at this time are- the tethering of my mobile not compatible, but software is always updating so i'll have to wait but it links up to wi fi with no hassle- The boot up time is longer that the 705 (but then it is 500gb and such a small device)- No powercable (just a usb lead, but i guess thats what all manufactures are doing)My best advice it get down to currys/ pc world and have a try. There are not mant stores that offer the 500gb (your more likely to get a 250gb at the same price as you would pay online for a 500gb) ### ⭐⭐ Lots of features - but they don't all work *by R***N on 7 September 2010* I ordered the Archos 5 internet tablet 500GB version as I was initially attracted by its large hard drive. I have filled my ipod classic 160GB and was looking for an alternative.To my surprise (!), I encountered similar problems in faulty functionality as other reviewers. I normally take close notice of Amazon reviews but was blinkered by the apparent amount of functions.For 300+ pounds, I expect a product that works and expect prompt customer supoprt from the manufacturer.Here's my experience:My problems:1) The GPS function refused to pick up any satellites. A delayed response back from Archos support said that the unit needs repair.2) Also, i found the music player and the FM radio to crash several times in one evening while navigating through my music library.The Bad points:1) The GPS functionality (it you get it to work) only has a 7 day trial period then you have to pay either £39 for a license for UK and Ireland or £49 for Europe.2) The GPS drains the battery quickly3) Slow reponse times to menu selection4) The need to immediately download a software/firmware updates straight out of the box.5) WiFi range was far less than my laptop computer. My router is downstairs but I couldn't use the WiFi on the Archos in my bedroom, although the laptop would pick up a medium strength signal.6) The battery seems to take forever to charge on USB.7) Cold boot time can be at least 2 minutes. (there is a "deep sleep" mode which allows quick start up but this will use battery)8) When you leave a question/problem/query for Archos technical support, you are told you should receive a response within 2 business days. The earliest they replied to me was 5 business days. Keep to your own promises, Archos!Good points:1) Large hard drive space for videos and music2) PDF viewer (but slow refresh rate)3) Built in speaker (but quiet and tinny)4) High resolution screen for looing at video and photos.In summary, I sent mine back for a refund due to the faults mentioned above, but overall I was disappointed by the performance of the music player - which is what I originally bought it for.I did read other reviews about the problems other people had out of the box - they were true. Goodness knows what the manufacturing yield Archos manage to achieve on this product - it must be really low.Very disappointing. ### ⭐ 1 star because I can't give 0 *by A*** on 7 March 2013* I've always been an Archos fan so ignored negative reviews on here. After buying this I will never buy an Archos product again. I only wanted this as a music and video player but it wouldn't even do that properly. The video library wouldn't load fully which defeats the object of having such a large capacity. As others have stated here Archos customer service is next to useless. Mine has gone back and I am waiting on a refund which seems to be taking forever.
