About a month ago, I noticed that the nose clip wasn't staying in position any longer, so I would pinch it shut, and it would gradually open, letting in outside air. It's time to replace it, and I have updated my review to 5 stars. The reason for this is that during the past year I have also tried a few other masks that were supposed to be much better at removing fragrances from the air, because they have activated charcoal in them. They are all more expensive than this little beauty, and they either don't work as well or they are more uncomfortable or both. Understand that no mask other than a true chemical mask will truly filter out chemicals and fragrances from the air, but this one, because it filters particles down to 0.1 microns, reduces my exposure enough that I can generally function in public. Not only is it not suitable for that, it's super flimsy and I wouldn't recommend it for any of the advertised uses, even at half price. The mask is a flat elasticized, thin, almost paper-like "fabric" with circles cut out for the ears. A lot like single-use dish rags. The filter is the shape of a number 2 cone coffee filter. I thought it opened to go over the mouth and nose but it doesn't. It lays flat with an adhesive strip to be stuck to the band that bends to make a "nose" piece. And the smell of new paper and whatever chemicals is really strong. Due to the shape of the filter and mask, a ton of air comes in around the edges. ( yes, even if you twist it like the directions say). So it's not doing much to keep germs or allergens or smells in or out.
