What is the difference between the 420 and the 220?

The 420 is a dual diaphragm microphone with 3 selectable polar patterns. The 220 is a single, large diaphragm microphone. This means the 420 is more versatile. It can be used on vocals, instruments, cabinets, or as a room/atmospheric microphone.The 420 is, also, a bit more sensitive.

how do i record with this mic, on my macbook, using garage band. Does it bring a Usb to connect mic to laptop?

The box doesn't contain any cables; it's just the mic and a shock mount. This is a purely analog device, and it connects via an XLR connection so you'll need an audio interface of some sort which supports XLR devices. As this is a condenser microphone, you'll need an audio interface which can also supply phantom power. A lot of simple cables which purport to connect XLR devices via USB don't supply any phantom power, so beware.

I want to use this as a church pulpit mic. Can I speak into it from 24 inches away and it still pick up strong?

IF it is connected to a mixer/audio interface that has 48v phantom power, yes, you can definitely speak from it, even at 2 feet away. that would require upping the gain though. But yes, defly you can. :)

Is this the newer p420 version or is it the discontinued one? it looks like the newer ones are labled p420 instead of "perception 420" like this one.
