ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
It has been a long time since I have read such an amazing and enlightening book that one cannot put down once they begin to read. From the very beginning as the author walks us through the brief life of Flame, (The mother of Reckless) and the birth of Reckless and the death of her mother the person who reads this account will find themselves riveted to this book. Some may think it is a little silly that a war student should be so enamored by this human interest story, but believe me it all fits together as you read this wonderful account of Sergeant Reckless. Miss out at your own misfortune and loss .

Important read to get the full picture of Reckless' story
I liked it because it was full of the actual details of the attacks. I think from reading some other reviewers, the particulars of the battles became tedious to them. But this book reveals "this is real life", the-way-it-was aspect of what the soldiers and Reckless suffered, endured, and survived. I also was so grateful for the research the author did to establish who this horse was, where she came from and why her Korean owner sold her to a US Marine. All that is mentioned in another book I read, Sgt. Reckless; yet, the full, personal story of the Korean young man who owned her is included as Part I of Reckless: Pride of the Marines. The author, who served in the 5th Marines Recoiless Rifle Platoon among his three tours of duty in the Korean Theater is certainly believable as he relates the horrendous conditions encountered charging up Outpost Vegas. He understands first hand what it takes: the rigors and the demands on body and soul. And I felt from the comments of soldiers, officers, generals — to them it was "Yes, we know; we're all in this together."

Horse, Mare, one each, Reckless
Reckless, ( the horse ) gets twelve stars out of five. The soldiers get ten out of five. Even the rich Japanese guy and his jockey get a half dozen stars, but the book? It reads like a military report. Sorry, just too many names numbers and details, and not enough story about the horse. Gotta love the horse, but there are several books out there about her and I'm going to try a different one next.

This story needs to be made into a movie
At first I had a really hard time getting into this story, but then, it happened. . . magic of the story! I love horses and stories about horses. More than that I love stories based on real life stories. This one is a winner. If you like Marine history - you'll like this book. If you like horse stories - you'll like this book. If you like real life stories - you'll like this book. When you're done reading, I think you'll agree with me, this needs to be made into a movie.

A mix of saddness and joy. Loved it
A mix of saddness and joy. Loved it, proud of the men Reckless was associated with, her history, and theirs. Read it straight through. I have never associated with horses, this made me realize how smart horses are and loyal as well.

SGT. RECKLESS--A REAL LIFE WAR HORSE !
Terrific! Gave a very good history of the lead up to the Korean War and major parts of the war in which this remarkable little mare, SGT. RECKLESS, played a heroic part!! A fabulous WAR HORSE story and it's TRUE!! The ONLY negative comment I have is that not ONE photo is in this book. Such a shame because I found lots of photos and commentary about Sgt. Reckless on the internet. Other than that, I HIGHLY recommend reading this book--it's not only remarkable but it is also wonderful! Visitors to our nation's capitol should add to their list of "sights to see" the Marine Museum in Triangle VA. On the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean they had a very lovely unveiling of a bronze statue of RECKLESS. It is definitely worth the trip to see it, plus the Museum itself is extremely interesting.

Story of a true War Horse
The story of a horse used to haul ammunition for the US Marine Corps. during the Korean war. She was a rising star on the racetrack before the war and showed her courage and training under fire during the war. Many Marines claim to owe her their lives because of the ammunition and supplies she delivered to the front lines during the fighting.

This is a great story - and true!
I found this very interesting telling about Reckless origins and all the changes along the way, her attachments about bravery. Would like to have known more; if she had a colt and what happened at the end.I also think the author should have used a better proofreader as many words were misspelled or out of place.Therese Short

An unbelievably incredible horse- Sgt. Reckless!
Anyone who even likes horses should purchase this book and would love Sgt. Reckless after reading this book. Her teachability was incredible, like she was half human! This book made me wish I could have met her, seen her in action and given her a big hug!
