Most versatile, sturdy and functional hiking shoes ever
I love Keen brand hiking shoes and have been wearing them for years. Finally taking the time after having this pair for quite a while to review how they have stood the test of time, with heavy daily use, and very treacherous and adverse weather conditions. They keep me steady on my feet, keep my feet dry, keep my arches supported and I always have good traction even under muddy weather conditions. Even though they are waterproof, they are still breathable and they don't leave you with stinky feet. The color varieties are very nice but I really like the subtlety of this particular color combo. The sole is so great on gravel and in hiking. They're easy to clean with just a damp microfiber cloth and they still look pretty good after all this time. Oh and I'm a woman who occasionally buys men's hiking boots because I like the wider toe box, so if you're a size 10 in women's, a size 9 in men's fits perfectly. Don't get the 8.5, get the extra half a size in this brand... and you will thank me later. After trying Merrell, Oboz, Timberland, Columbia, and Nortiv8 in the last few years, I always come back to Keen. I don't think I can be the comfort and foot feel, as well as the quality that has stood the test of time. Well worth every dollar!

My most comfortable shoes ever!
I’m an old retired guy who hikes a little but walks a lot. For years I’ve been wearing Merrill Moabs, both regular and waterproof, as my everyday, all-day shoes. and been generally happy with them. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed recently that my feet have spread out and gotten a little wider. So instead of my normal size 12, I tried both versions in size 12W, the wider versions. But they were too wide and not comfortable. I could never se3m to get the laces the right tightness. The waterproof version of the Moabs felt like an entirely different shoe and weren’t comfortable. So, after hearing about these Keens and their slightly more roomy toe box, I decided to try them. I’ve had them only about a week, but so far they are most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I just love how they feel. Just the right amount of stiffness and cushioning. It’s too soon to judge longevity, but they seem very well constructed. And a bonus I didn’t expect: The waterproof version of these Keens with “Keendry” seem to breathe much better than the waterproof version of Merrells Moab 3 with Goretex. In rainy or dry weather, with the Keens, my feet are dryer and less sweaty, but because they’re dryer, they feel warmer in cold weather. Happy feet! I realize everyone is different, so your mileage may differ. But for me, these are great.

Heavy and Clumsy but Fantastically Comfortable and Durable
I bought these with the idea of waterproof hikers. They fit really good and are comfortable to wear but the big problem is they are really really heavy, almost as heavy as the Old School Danner hiking boots. So I’m not thrilled with these and will probably replace with nice light Merrill Moab’s - just too heavy to be practical. Plus with the wide toe box they are clumsy to wear, almost like wearing snowshoes. Update as of March, 2026. I have grown to absolutely love my Keene Targhee 3 hiking shoes. I have worn them everyday for the past 2 years and they are my favorite DO EVERYTHING SHOE. they are extremely comfortable, show almost no sign of wear, and are remarkably waterproof. My new favorite all-time shoe. I’ve gotten used to the weight and don’t even notice it anymore. I highly recommend these shoes!

Surprised by comfort!
*** Update I've put about 200-250 hiking miles on these shoes since this review. The shoes are great on my feet but I am removing one star because of the heel lining. As you can see from the photo the liner fabric at the heal is tearing. In my opinion this is not good after so few miles. I still like the fit but I do wish the lining was more durable as this will reduce the life of the shoe significantly. I started backpacking about 5 years ago and have had nothing but trouble with hiking shoes. I've changed brands, sizes, socks, etc. but have never found a shoe that was comfortable. That changed when I bought these Keens a few months back. I've got about 300 miles of backpacking on them now including a recent 30 mile section hike on the AT. I can honestly say these Keens were amazing. Before a lot of my focus while hiking was how to minimize discomfort with my shoes going up and down steep and long terrain. I barely paid attention to my Keens other than to tell others how satisfied I was with my new shoes.

Feel great
They are well made and very comfortable. The arch support is perfect for me. Quality so far is excellent. I was a little disappointed by the cost but got tired of returning other shoes that weren't comfortable.

Try them, you'll love them.
Love these shoes they're great, extremely comfortable. I've been walking about 25 miles per week on pavement for around 6 months and the soles are still like new. Really a great product and highly recommend.

Best Shoe Ever
Best shoe I've ever owned. More room in the toe box and built like tank.

Excellent shoes with caveats
I do a LOT of walking, much of it in urban areas but also on trails. I have heard about the KEEN shoes for years, and I finally got a pair late in 2023. (The pair I purchased more recently from Amazon was to replace that earlier pair.) The news is mostly good. They are very comfortable shoes, and I especially appreciate the roomy toe area. The uppers are solid and stand up to mud and water — I've used them for long walks in rain. The thickness and stiffness of the sole is just right for me — not too stiff for the urban walking, but providing enough cushion and stiffness for hiking on trails, including somewhat rough trails. The little loop at the heel is actually useful when putting the shoes on. The lacing system is straightforward and effective. The shoes were comfortable right out of the box and remained so. I would like to mention two issue that buyers should be aware of. First, like many similar shoes, the removable cushioned insoles are not very durable. After six months of use or a bit less the fabric on top of the insoles began to wear and I had to replace them. More concerning to me is that the soles wore down significantly after six months, to the point that all of the heel tread was gone and a hole revealed the underlying (and less protective) inner foam layer. Unfortunately, the soles are not replaceable. In fairness, I walk a lot and I do wear shoes out this way. But do be aware of this if you purchase this shoe.

Very comfortable, very dangerous
Despite being one of the most comfortable shoes I have ever had, they are so very slippery in the wet condition.
